Stop intercepting cleared cargoes – Police warn personnel

The Marine Command of Nigeria Police Force has warned its personnel to stop intercepting already cleared cargoes.
The Assistant Inspector General of Police, Pius Imue, made the promise during a courtesy visit to the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, NSC, head office in Lagos.
According to him, some police officers, under Marine Police, were in the habit of writing the terminal operators to stop the release of containers. He said this will be addressed.
He stated the services of the police officers are at the disposal of the council each time they want to carry out any monitoring and compliance exercise at the ports.
Imue said the Police will set up a Special Desk to handle reports on maritime matters as requested by the Executive Secretary. He also promised to create a team that will work with NSC and other government agencies in carrying out some of their statutory obligations at the ports.
In his response, Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer, NSC, Mr. Hassan Bello, said the agency needs a friendly and efficient port and cannot do this without the integration of the Marine Police Command.
