The Police in Kano have arrested two suspected fraudsters who specialise in adulteration of fertilizers and selling it to farmers.
A statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Magaji Majiya, and made available to newsmen in Kano on Wednesday, gave the names of the suspects as Nasiru Bagwai and Yahaya Kabo.
Majiya said they were apprehended on Monday at the popular Kwanar Singer market with 100 bags of the adulterated commodity in their possession,waiting for buyers.
“The two suspects, Nasiru Bagwai and Yahaya Kabo were arrested in connection with adulteration of fertilizers which they sell to their innocent victims in Kano.
Majiya said the suspected fraudsters were also found to have invented the trick of using white sand to craftily adulterate the product, using a bag of genuine fertiliser to convert it to 20 bags of the commodity.
“The duo were arrested on a tip-off in the nocturnal hours of Monday with the 100 bags of the adulterated commodity in their possession.
“They dispose it to the general public at the rate officially fixed by the Federal Government, which is N5,500. per bag,” police spokesman said.
He said the suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigations were concluded, .
