Venus Williams Set Wimbledon Semi Final Records

Venus Williams ‘brushed’ away French Open winner, Jelena Ostapenko 6-3, 7-5 on Tuesday to become the oldest Wimbledon semi-finalist for twenty three years.

The 73-minute master class on centre court made the thirty seven years old the most senior tennis player to reach the last four since Martina Navratilova in 1994.

Venus, an eight-time Wimbledon finalist, will play Britain’s Johanna Konta or Romania’s Simona Halep in Thursday’s semi-finals.

The World number 11 was beaten in this year’s Australian Open final, but is chasing first major title since winning Wimbledon in 2008.
