I‘d sign a 10-year Chelsea contract – Alvaro Morata

Alvaro Morata says he would sign a 10-year contract at Chelsea after clarifying comments that he was unhappy with life in London.

Morata told Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport that he would not be staying in London for long as the city was “too stressful”, ahead of the Blues Champions League clash with Roma.

But in the pre-match news conference in Italy, Morata, who signed in a £70m deal from Real Madrid in the summer, reaffirmed his commitment to the club.

He said: “We have a problem of understanding in this interview. If Chelsea proposed me 10 years I would probably sign it as I am happy at the club, I am happy with the city and everything in London.

“I really like London and if I improve, probably I can stay here more than five years. I need to score many goals otherwise Chelsea would buy another player, it is normal.”

The Spaniard said he will eventually move back to his home country once his career finishes, admitting there are elements of London he does not like such the amount of traffic and people.

Morata added: “I wanted to say that probably in the future when I finish my career I probably won’t live there but now I am very happy in London and I am enjoying London with my wife.

“I really like it now but probably in the future when I have a child and want to take him to school once I have finished my career, I prefer to go back to my country.

“It is normal for me. When I say it’s a stressful city I mean the traffic and a lot of people. I say to it is an incredible city with many religions and different kind of people so I really enjoy London.”

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte went through a similar period of homesickness last season due to his family remaining in Italy during his first campaign, and he understands what Morata is going through.

“I think Alvaro is a good person and he is enjoying his time in London, and playing with Chelsea – a great team,” Conte said. “Every time I have spoken with him he has said he is very happy with this fantastic experience for him and his wife.

“I know very well where he is living now, with his wife, and it was the same building that I lived in last season. It’s a lovely place and not so far from the training ground.

“For me I was alone without my family. When you stay abroad and work with a lot of pressure, it is good to have your family with you. This season, I solved this problen. They stay with me and I enjoy my time in Cobham. I am enjoying London, and this league.

“It’s a fantastic experience for Alvaro, for me, and every player who decides to have the experience of this league.
