Leicester speed up recruitment plans after Everton sack Ronald Koeman

Leicester are accelerating their plans to appoint a new manager in the wake of Everton’s decision to sack Ronald Koeman, Sky Sports reports.

Officials at both clubs fear they could be targeting the same candidates in their recruitment process with Leicester looking for a replacement for Craig Shakespeare.


They sacked Shakespeare a week ago but were initially satisfied that, in caretaker Michael Appleton, the squad had been left in good hands in the short-term.

But Koeman’s dismissal, and continuing doubts over the future of West Ham boss Slaven Bilic, are fuelling Leicester’s desire to make a quicker appointment.

One man interested in talking to both Everton and Leicester, Sky Sports reports, is former Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini.

Pellegrini is currently manager of Chinese Super League side Hebei China Fortune, and money could be the stumbling block in any move to appoint the Chilean.

Hebei would want a significant sum in compensation for Pellegrini, who has two years left on his contract after the Chinese season ends this coming weekend – his wages in China are also far higher than Leicester and Everton have ever paid for a manager, it was gathered his three-year deal was worth around £36m.

Pellegrini is understood to be keen on a return to the Premier League and Sky Sports reports he is on Leicester’s list of possible candidates.

Sean Dyche remains a front-runner for both Leicester and Everton, while Ryan Giggs told Sky Sports on Monday that he is interested in both roles.

The two teams meet at the King Power Stadium this weekend and that game is part of Sunday double-header.
