Cristiano Ronaldo may have only played 25 minutes of last night’s Euro 2016 final, but the Real Madrid man was still the biggest talking point.
The 3-time Ballon D’Or winner was injured in the early stages of the game after taking a tough tackle from France’s Dimitri Payet.
Ronaldo tried his best to play on, and received extensive treatment on his knee, but he finally had to succumb to the injury.
Ronaldo rooted his team on from the sideline for the remainder of the game, and by the end he was acting as the glorified manager.
Mama Dolores blames Payet
So it turned out to be a happy and glorious night for Ronaldo, and his knee injury shouldn’t be too serious, but the question remains: did Payet mean to hurt him?
It’s a serious accusation to make at a player, and in Payet’s defence: he did get the ball.
The West Ham man did follow through with his trailing leg, but the truth is that we see these kind of tackles in every game, and most of the time, they don’t result in injury.
But Mama Dolores didn’t see it that way.
She took to Twitter during the game to condemn Payet’s tackle, insinuating he’d intentionally hurt her son.
‘I cannot see my son in this way. The game is about kicking the ball, not hurting the opponent.’
Eu não posso vê-lo desta forma o meu filho. O jogo é chutar a bola e não ferir o adversário.#Euro2016Final pic.twitter.com/TQ7u4ercpf— Dolores Aveiro (@DoloresAveiro) 10 July 2016
