AC Milan have agreed personal terms with Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata, according to reports in Italy.
The Serie A side’s hierarchy will now travel to Cardiff to watch Morata in action against Juventus in the Champions League final.
Manchester United and Chelsea have been heavily tipped with a transfer for Morata, but he has already told Milan he is happy to join them.
Reports claimed Morata had his heart set on linking up with Blues boss Antonio Conte, but Gianluca Di Marzio insist Milan is leading the race.
It is believed Milan have agreed to pay Morata just under £7 million a year with the attacker agreeing a five-year contract.
Milan still have to finalise a fee with Real and have yet to open official discussions with the La Liga giants.
But the Italians believe talks will progress quickly after the Champions League final.
Morata’s agent Juanma Lopez will be present at the final along with Milan heads, Marco Fassone and Massimiliano Mirabelli.
There is still hope for United and Chelsea as Milan are preparing for the possibility the deal is hijacked.
Milan are putting things in place to make a play for Torino hitman Andrea Belotti should a big club enter the fray for Morata.
Jose Mourinho has turned United’s attention away from Antoine Griezmann after Atletico Madrid’s one-year transfer ban was upheld on Thursday.
United are pursuing several new striking options including Morata.
Conte, on the other hand, is preparing to lead Chelsea back into the Champions League and will need a replacement for top scorer Diego Costa should he leave the club.
Costa’s first-choice destination, Atletico, is of course no longer an option although reports claim there is serious interest from China.
