Two abductors of septuagenarian arrested

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two men for alleged involvement in the kidnap of a 70-year-old woman, identified as Victoria Jimba, on August 30, 2017.

Jimba was abducted by a gang of kidnappers in Igbotako, in the Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State, while going to church.

According to the Public Relations Officer of the Ondo State Police Command, Mr. Femi Joseph, the suspects are Idowu Olorunfemi and Olopade Waheed.

The police spokesman stated that the septuagenarian was later released by her abductors a few days after she was kidnapped, adding that he was not aware that any ransom was paid by the family of the victim before the old woman was freed.

While parading the suspects in Akure, the Ondo State capital, on Thursday, the PPRO said the other members of the kidnapping gang that participated in the “dastardly act” had not been arrested, adding that the police were on their trail.

Joseph said, “After the report of the kidnap of the 70-year-old woman was made to us, we swung into action and after a discreet investigation and intelligence gathering, the suspects were arrested.

“The mobile phone they used to demand ransom was recovered from them. We are making efforts to arrest the fleeing members of the gang.”

The PPRO, who noted that the suspect would soon be charged to court, appealed to the people of the state to always report any suspicious movement in their vicinity to the police.
