The 37-year-old former Liverpool star splashed out on an 18 carat gold iPad, complete with personalised engraving, for daughter Lourdes' six birthday.
Dad-of-four Steven is often praised for his fatherly ways on social media, but this time he faced the wrath of his following who claimed he was 'gloating' about the lavish gift which would have set him back around £1500.
His followers were not happy brandishing Steven 'chavtastic' and 'smug', while some said they wouldn't be 'following' the footballer anymore.
"I really like this couple and always thought he was very down to earth! But this is just so ridiculous for a 6 year old? What will she expect to receive next year? And why broadcast it all over Instagram ?" asked one.
"I just think it’s over the top giving a 6 year old child a 14kt gold iPad," slammed another.
While a third fumed: "Disappointed in you Steven ... will be unfollowing."
