Forum decries rise in marriage dissolution

An Islamic forum “Darul Tazkiya Lil Ulumil Islamiya” has organized a one day workshop during weekend, where clerics and women group debated on the rise in marriage dissolutions especially in the northerner part of the country.

Various discussants lamented the menace, especially among the Hausa/Fulani community in the region.

In his contribution, the deputy director of the FCT Shari’a Court of Appeal, Malam Muhammad Lawal Munir, said a divorced woman was empowered by Islam to be awarded a special package by her husband.

He said the package was to be based on the ex-husband’s wealth, hence he encouraged women to seek the gesture if they were denied, saying the court could only entertain what the applicant brought before it.

The imam of the Abuja Legislative Quarters Mosque, Sheikh Nur Khalid called on Muslims to seek partners of their level and to place priorities on character above other attributes.
The forum encouraged Muslim societies to set up centres for marriage counselling.
