Photos: Sierra Leone pastor finds one of the world's largest uncut diamonds

A pastor has discovered one of the largest uncut diamonds in Kono district, Sierra Leone.

Pastor Emmanuel Momoh's discovery, which is yet to be valued weighs 709 carats, is now locked up in Sierra Leone's central bank in Freetown, BBC reports.

he diamond is the biggest to be in Sierra Leone since 1970, when the 969-carat Star of Sierra Leone was dug up.

An American pastor at Victory Outreach Church, Salinas has died on Tuesday night after being stabbed in the neck.

According to The Californian, shortly after that incident, Salinas police arrested one of the pastor's parishioners who is suspected to have carried out the stabbing.

The wife of former Chelsea, Real Madrid and AC Milan midfielder Michael Essien has bought Italian third-division side Como at an auction.

Akosua Puni Essien bought the club for €237,000. The price does not include the training centre or the Calcio Como brand, and the team will now be known as FC Como.

Court sends former NNPC boss Yakubu to prison

The Federal High Court, Abuja, on Thursday ordered the remand of Andrew Yakubu, former Group Managing Director, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), in Kuje Prison, and fixed March 21 for ruling on the bail application.

Yakubu was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a six-count charge bordering on non-disclosure of assets and fraud, charges to which he pleaded not guilty.

The immediate past Chairman of Etsako-East Local Government Council of Edo, Suleiman Afegbua, has been killed by gunmen.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Mr. Afegbua was attacked and killed in the early hours of Thursday along the Benin-Auchi road by Ogbemudia’s farm.

Aero Contractors Airline, which is under the management of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON), has sacked about 900 workers representing 60 per cent.
Letters of redundancy were issued to the affected employees during the week.
Media Consultant to the 58 year-old airline, Mr Simon Tumba, who confirmed the development in a statement issued on Thursday in Lagos, said the workers would be paid their pension and gratuity.

A conman has been jailed after he was involved in a “planned, complicated, sophisticated and systematic” £100,000 fraud against a Chester woman.

Ajibola Daudu, 43, of Banner Close, Purfleet, Essex, pleaded guilty on the day of his Chester Crown Court trial to one count of fraud against Lynn Hawes from October, 2015 to September, 2016.

The Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the temporary forfeiture of N1.8 billion allegedly diverted from the coffers of the Nigerian Navy by a former Chief of Naval Staff, Dele Ezeoba.

The court gave the forfeiture order following an application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, pursuant to Section 17 of the Advanced Fee Fraud Act 2006.

Joined in the suit as defendants are Chukwuka Onwuchekwa and Aquila Leasing Ltd.

The Bauchi State police command has arrested two teachers in the state for allegedly raping a six years old pupil in their school.

The suspects, Sani Abubakar, 39, and Usman Hassan, 33, allegedly lured the victim at Dutse Tashi Primary school in Bauchi Metropolis and raped her, the police said.

A Federal High Court in Abuja has dashed the hopes of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to field a candidate in the Anambra Central senatorial district election as it dismissed a suit brought by Sharon Ikeazor seeking to compel the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to accept her as a substitute to Dr. Chris Ngige.

A letter bomb exploded at the International Monetary Fund office in Paris early Thursday, lightly injuring one person, police said.

Speaking to reporters, Paris police chief Michel Cadot said the device was sent by post and the small explosion was probably cause by a homemade device. He said there had been telephone threats made to the IMF, but it’s not clear whether they were linked to Thursday’s incident.
