60-year-old woman bags six months for burglary in Lagos


A 60-year-old woman, Adegunwa Adejoke, was on Monday sentenced to six months imprisonment for breaking a shop with the intent to steal, an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State ruled on Monday.

Adejoke, a resident of Agbowa-Ikosi in Ikorodu area, had pleaded guilty to the three-count charge of conspiracy, housebreaking and burglary brought against her.

EFCC Nets Fugitive, Obi Timothy Nwasike, Wanted For Fraud, Misappropriation


Offials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday arrested Obi Timothy Nwasike, a retired staff of Shell Petroleum, who was wanted in connection with a petition that accused him of fraudulent diversion and criminal misappropriation.
Mr. Nwasike was arrested early Sunday morning as he arrived at Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos. An EFCC source told SaharaReporters that the anti-agency had in August 2015 received a petition from a firm, Continental Alarm Limited, alleging that Mr. Nwasike fraudulently diverted and criminally misappropriated contract proceeds paid into his account. The source further disclosed that Mr. Nwasike ignored the commission’s invitation to appear in its offices for questioning, preferring to go into hiding. 

Second born children are more likely to be criminals — Study


A new study has declared that a child who is the second-born in the family is more likely to be a troublemaker, which may make him a criminal in the long run.
Second-born sons are more likely to be suspended from school, become juvenile delinquents and go to prison, according to the new study by MIT economist, Joseph Doyle.

After examining tons of data, Doyle and colleagues Sanni Breining, David Figlio, Krzys Karbownik and Jeffrey Roth found that second-born children, particularly sons, have a 25 percent to 40 percent increased likelihood of being troublemakers at school or with police when compared to first-born children in the same family.

Obasanjo reveals those who gave him $150,000 to start life after leaving prison in 1998


Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, has revealed that the founder of Cable News Network, CNN, Ted Turner and Ford Foundation both gave him the sum of $150,000 as a lifeline after he was released from prison by former Head of State, Gen Abdulsalami Abubakar(rtd) in 1998.
Obasanjo, who disclosed that he left prison broke, added that the money helped him to settle the tuition fees of his children and other needs at the time.

$1.7bn debt: Banks get court nod to seize assets of Diezani’s associates


A federal high court in Lagos has directed 19 banks to seize assets belonging to businessmen Olajide Omokore and Kolawole Aluko until it decides the fate of a suit seeking the recovery of the $1.7 billion owed to the federal government.

Both men are associates of Diezani Alison-Madueke, former minister of petroleum.

Omokore, Aluko and their oil firms allegedly owe the federal government $1, 762, 338, 284.40 for crude oil lifted under the strategic alliance agreements (SAA).

A magistrates’ court in Katsina State has remanded 16-year-old Abdulmalik Yau of Durbi Ta-Kusheyi village in Mani Local Government Area over alleged raping and impregnating a 14-year-old girl.

The Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, on Sunday deposed the suspended Baale of Shangisha in Magodo, Chief Yusuf Ogundare, for allegedly faking his abduction on July 5, 2017.

Ambode had last Friday suspended Ogundare after he was paraded alongside his brother, Mohammed Adams, by the Lagos State Police Command for conspiring to fake the alleged kidnap.
