Apple Brings Dr. Dre On Board With Official $3 Billion Beats Deal


After weeks of rumor, Apple finally announced it has acquired headphone maker Beats Electronic for $3 billion, including $2.6 billion cash up front and approximately $400 million in stock that will vest over time. As part of the deal, Beats co-founders Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine will join Apple AAPL -0.26% in undisclosed roles.

Manchester United Owner Malcolm Glazer Dies

The owner of Manchester United football club, Malcolm Glazer, has died aged 85.
The news was announced by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the American football club he owned for nearly 30 years.
The club said he passed away on Wednesday morning and described him as a "pioneering thinker" and "dynamic business leader".

Boko Haram: MTN, forensic expert to testify against Ndume

A Federal High Court, Abuja, on Tuesday granted an application by the Federal Government to call two additional witnesses against Senator Aliyu Ndume, who is facing charges of sponsoring the violent Islamic fundamentalist sect, Boko Haram.

The proposed witnesses, according to the Federal Government, are the MTN and a forensic expert. Three prosecution witnesses had already testified in the case.

Qatar has issued a decree advising tourists that leggings are not considered pants and are not modest enough to wear in public.
Leggings have been singled out in pamphlets distributed by the Gulf state as inappropriate attire for tourists in the notoriously strict Islamic country.

Convicted Boko Haram Member, Kabiru Sokoto, Begs For Pardon

A member of Boko Haram sect already convicted of terrorism charges, Kabiru Umar (aka Kabiru Sokoto), has appealed to President Goodluck Jonathan for pardon. The convict appealed against the judgment of a Federal High Court, Abuja, which sentenced him to life imprisonment on December 20, 2013. But he told the President through a letter written on his behalf by his lawyer, Sheriff Okoh, that he was innocent of the offences he was convicted of.

125 Nigerian students to attend Northeastern with full scholarship

125 college students from Nigeria who received full scholarships from the Nigerian government will be attending college in Boston in the fall. The students are set to attend Northeastern University, and roughly half of them arrived in Boston on Monday May 26th.

Google's new driverless car could be on the roads within a year

No hands: Google has begun work on the world's first ever self-driving car, an early prototype of which is pictured above
Google last night announced it will start building its self-driving car - and it plans to have the revolutionary vehicles on roads within a year.

Co-founder Sergey Brin unveiled the car - which will be equipped only with a stop/go button and be capable of speeds up to 25mph -  at a conference in California.

Skype To Launch Real-Time Voice Translation

Real-time voice translation will be added to Skype by the end of the year, Microsoft has revealed.
The firm says it has taken years of research to be in a position to launch the feature, and that it is still "early days" for the technology.
