Michel Platini takes corruption appeal to human rights court


Disgraced former France star Michel Platini has appealed against his suspension from football for corruption to the European Court of Human Rights.

“It’s a fight for rights against an injustice and if, above and beyond me, this can evolve FIFA, so much the better,” Platini told AFP on Wednesday.

NDLEA Uncovers N20m Indian Hemp In Warehouse


Officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Edo State Command, have burst a warehouse at Ugbubezi forest in Owan West Local Government Area of the State, stored with large quantity of harvested dried weeds of cannabis sativa, popularly known as indian hemp.

Ofoyeju Mitchell, Principal Staff Officer Public Affairs, for the anti-narcotic agency in Edo, said in a statement that the illicit drugs, compressed in 34 bags with a total weight of 1,996kg, were evacuated from the warehouse by 70 officers of the agency.

Oil prices were firm on Wednesday, receiving ongoing support from healthy economic growth and supply restrictions led by the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and Russia.

NAN reports that brent crude oil futures, the international benchmark for oil prices, were at 70 dollars a barrel, up four cents from Tuesday.

Cash settlements obtained from people detained in Saudi Arabia’s crackdown on corruption will help to finance a 50 billion riyal (13.3 billion dollars) package for citizens to cope with the rising cost of living, Finance Minister Mohammed al-Jadaan said on Wednesday.

Robbers Kill Medical Doctor In Edo


Gunmen, suspected to be highway robbers, have killed a medical doctor with the University of Benin Teaching Hospital in the Ovia North-East Local Government Area of Edo State.
