Zambia denies opposition leader barred access to lawyer

Zambian police have denied the main opposition party’s claim that its detained leader Hakainde Hichilema was denied access to his lawyers and family members.
Hichilema was arrested on Tuesday and charged with treason for allegedly obstructing President Edgar Lungu’s motorcade on a main road.

Ibrahim Magu, Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, says the ECC will continue to fight corruption whether anybody likes it or not.
He reiterated the commission’s readiness in ensuring that corruption is completely wiped out in Nigeria, a development, Magu noted, will ensure Nigeria retains her position in the comity of nations.
Magu made this known during an interactive session with staff of the Commission to mark its 14th year anniversary.

Man executed publicly for killing six in public


A man convicted of murdering six people in a shooting spree was publicly executed in Iran on Thursday, according to the Tasnim news agency.
The man had been found guilty by the country’s supreme court of shooting six people with a machine gun in January.

Ile-Ife: 15 detainees released, 40 obas protest monarch’s detention


The Nigeria Police Force has released 15 out of the 21 persons arrested for their alleged role in the clash between Hausa and Yoruba youths in Ile-Ife, Osun State, which left at least 46 persons dead.
The Publicity Secretary of the pan-Yoruba group, Afenifere, Yinka Odumakin, told our correspondent on the telephone on Thursday that the 15 suspects were released unconditionally.
