Sultan declares September 1 for Eid-el-Kabir holiday


Sept. 1, 2017 has been declared as Eid-el-Kabir day by the Sultan of Sokoto and Chairman Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar.

This is contained in a statement signed by Prof. Sambo Junaidu, the Chairman, Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs to the Sokoto Sultanate Council and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Sokoto.

2-Year old Suffers Injury To Head After Uncle Tortured Her For Excreting On The Bed


Two-old girl, Chidinma Okasu, escaped death by a whisker after an injury to her head reportedly affected her brain.

According to report, the child sustained the injury after being allegedly tortured by her uncle a certain Seyi Shodiya for excreting on a bed.

20 South Africa inmates escape during police truck ambush


An armed gang freed 20 prisoners in South Africa by ambushing a police truck transporting them from court back to their cells, authorities said Wednesday.

During the incident, which occurred south of Johannesburg on Tuesday, a group of men armed with rifles surrounded the truck which was ferrying the prisoners, most of them still awaiting trial, police said.

56 houses linked to Diezani temporarily seized


Temporary forfeiture of 56 houses linked to a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, has been ordered by a Federal High Court in Lagos.
According to Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Diezani paid $21,982,224 for the properties located in Abuja, Lagos and Port Harcourt, adding that it believed that the funds were proceeds of crime.

The anti-graft agency listed the properties to include 29 terraced houses comprising eight four-bedroomed penthouse apartments, six three-bedroomed apartments, two three-bedroomed maisonettes, two twin bedroomed apartments and one four-bedroom apartment.

Charli Parker, a former teacher at a private Christian school in Alabama accused of having sex with two underage male students has been sentenced to three years in prison after pleading guilty to one charge.

The 31-year-old Parker was sentenced to 12 years in prison, though she would only serve three years, followed by five years of probation.
