The Bayero University Lecturer who presented a paper titled “Nexus Between Youth, Drugs, Crime and Insecurity”, wondered why drug abuse was not prevalent in the Southeastern region, but the Igbos supply cough syrup that contains codeine for the consumption of the Northern youth.

THE Kogi governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, fell and injured his leg while attempting to alight from his car at the popular old market area of Lokoja, the state capital.

Confirming the incident, the state government, however, denied that Bello was incapacitated, saying he only had a bandage on the injured leg.

State governors elected on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress on Tuesday kept mum after meeting President Muhammadu Buhari behind closed doors at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The meeting which was held inside the Council Chambers started about 2.15pm and ended about 3.30pm.

These policemen were passing and stopped to give a helping hand. I was driving behind them and without their knowledge I smartly took these pictures!!! A 93-year-old Nigerian woman who has Sickle Cell anaemia has granted an interview in which she spoke about her life, living with sickle cell, marriage, childbirth and surviving against the odds.

Alhaja Ashiata Abike Onikoyi nee Laguda will be 94 years old this October and she lives a full life though she has the dreaded SS genotype. Alhaja Laguda, as she is popularly called, said during an interview with The Nation, that she stopped having Sickle Cell attacks since she turned 40, though her genotype remains same.

Judge Genece Brinkley didn't give reasons for her decision, but it came amidst pressure to open the prison doors for the rapper who has been in prison since November for a probation violation.  Meek's team has argued Judge Brinkley is biased and bears a grudge against him.

One of the suspects is an 18-year-old Aondoana Ator.

Ator, a JSS Two student of a secondary school from Ikpayongo community, in Benue, reportedly confessed that he operated with a military uniform he procured from an old friend with the sole aim of robbing with it.

A seven-man armed gang suspected to be cultists have reportedly shot dead a 26-year-old man, Mr Onyeka Oyende, at Ndemili community in Ndokwa West Local Government Area of Delta State.

The attack was said to have occurred on Monday morning.

Onyeka, who is believed to be a nephew of the chairman of the local vigilance group, was killed by the gunmen led by an ex-convict.

Former Minister of Finance Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is to explain how about $250million of the $500million recovered from the family of the late Head of State, Gen.Sani Abacha, was withdrawn, The Nation has reported.
 
It was gathered that the cash was released to the Office of National Security Adviser( ONSA) without appropriation. About $36,155,000 (N13,015,800 billion) out of the $250million was also withdrawn in cash “without any purpose”on March 2nd, 9th, 16th and 18th of 2015.

Popular Sierra Leonean traditional artist Ahmed Janka Nabay has died in his home in northern Sierra Leonean district of Kambia, according to his band colleague Pa Fullah.

Janka moved to the US in 2003 and returned home last year.

Nabay, known as the King of Bubu Music, played the traditional music of the Temne people of Sierra Leone, who dominate the northern part of the country.

Boko Haram Rains Havoc In Maiduguri, Kills Soldier, 19 Others


The military yesterday said no fewer than 20 persons, including a soldier, were killed on Sunday night in a battle to ward off a large number of suicide bombers trying to invade Maiduguri, the Borno State capital. About 84 others were injured.

Soldiers on the outskirts of Maiduguri also gunned down six armed Boko Haram gunmen and seven suicide bombers during the attack.
