President Buhari greets ex-Governor Oshiomhole at 65

President Muhammadu Buhari had joined the All Progressives Congress family to congratulate party stalwart and former Governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole on his 65th birthday.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the President felicitated with the foremost labour leader, his family, friends and colleagues on the milestone, which has been lined with awards and recognitions for courageous and selfless service to humanity, the nation and his community as a former leader of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and a governor.

Drug Abuse: Bayero University lecturer accuses Igbos of supplying codeine syrups in the North lailasnews

Dr. Bala Muhammad, a Bayero University lecturer attached to the Faculty of Communication, while presenting a paper at the Kano Youth Summit on Peace Advocacy and Development, organised by Hamisu Magaji Foundation, at Mambayya House, on Monday, accused Igbo drug merchants of allegedly supplying codeine syrups into the north.

The Bayero University Lecturer who presented a paper titled “Nexus Between Youth, Drugs, Crime and Insecurity”, wondered why drug abuse was not prevalent in the Southeastern region, but the Igbos supply cough syrup that contains codeine for the consumption of the Northern youth.

THE Kogi governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, fell and injured his leg while attempting to alight from his car at the popular old market area of Lokoja, the state capital.

Confirming the incident, the state government, however, denied that Bello was incapacitated, saying he only had a bandage on the injured leg.

Gov. Aminu Masari of Katsina State, says he will continue to bring into his government people with the courage to caution him when he goes wrong.

He made the remarks while swearing-in a new Special Adviser, Malam Bashir Ruwan-godiya, and three Shariah Court Judges on Tuesday in Katsina.

State governors elected on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress on Tuesday kept mum after meeting President Muhammadu Buhari behind closed doors at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The meeting which was held inside the Council Chambers started about 2.15pm and ended about 3.30pm.

Uchenna Onyeizu, a lecturer with the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State, posted the photos earlier today, applauding the officers for assisting the woman.

“Today, I saw the Nigeria Policemen from a very good point of view. This old woman was trying to tie her bunch of palm fruits to her bike when they suddenly fell off. These policemen were passing and stopped to give a helping hand. I was driving behind them and without their knowledge I smartly took these pictures!!! Really, we still have some men in uniform rendering unnoticed services to humanity. God bless you guys with promotions and good things of life!!!”

According to Facebook user, Cecilia Dikibo, the elderly man pictured above was apprehended after he raped a 10 year old girl in Ahoda, a community in Rivers state. The accused is said to be the chairman of the Parents Teachers Association of the Girls School, Ahoada.

A 93-year-old Nigerian woman who has Sickle Cell anaemia has granted an interview in which she spoke about her life, living with sickle cell, marriage, childbirth and surviving against the odds.

Alhaja Ashiata Abike Onikoyi nee Laguda will be 94 years old this October and she lives a full life though she has the dreaded SS genotype. Alhaja Laguda, as she is popularly called, said during an interview with The Nation, that she stopped having Sickle Cell attacks since she turned 40, though her genotype remains same.

Compton rapper, Kendrick Lamar, 30, has splashed $2.65million on a sprawling estate in the upscale LA suburb of Calabasas, California.

According to TMZ, the “Humble” rapper will not live in the mansion which has over 5400 square feet, boasting six bedrooms and six bathrooms, as the property is said to be an investment.

Meek Mill will remain locked up for the time being, because the judge in his case has shut down his bid to be released on bail.

Judge Genece Brinkley didn't give reasons for her decision, but it came amidst pressure to open the prison doors for the rapper who has been in prison since November for a probation violation. Meek's team has argued Judge Brinkley is biased and bears a grudge against him.

One of the suspects is an 18-year-old Aondoana Ator.

Ator, a JSS Two student of a secondary school from Ikpayongo community, in Benue, reportedly confessed that he operated with a military uniform he procured from an old friend with the sole aim of robbing with it.

Ekiti state Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has revealed that Nigerians no longer buy President Muhammadu Buhari's fake integrity. Fayose accused Buhari of presiding over the most corrupt government in the history of Nigeria and protecting looters of the country’s commonwealth.

In a release issued on Monday, by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose while reacting to the list released by the Federal Government of alleged looters said that corruption has become more endemic in Nigeria than it was in the last 16 years, with the country moving 12 places below its rating, an honourable government would have stopped using fight against corruption as its major achievement and releasing names of people who are still under trial as looters just to cover up its failure.

An accident occurred today, April 3, 2018, at the Motor-ways/Toll Gate axis of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, Lagos.

Local reports show that the accident occurred when an over-speeding bus lost control and tumbled into a drainage system. Thankfully, no life was lost.

A seven-man armed gang suspected to be cultists have reportedly shot dead a 26-year-old man, Mr Onyeka Oyende, at Ndemili community in Ndokwa West Local Government Area of Delta State.

The attack was said to have occurred on Monday morning.

Onyeka, who is believed to be a nephew of the chairman of the local vigilance group, was killed by the gunmen led by an ex-convict.

The Nigeria Police Force said it would arraign Sen. Dino Melaye and the four suspects rearrested for alleged conspiracy and unlawful possession of prohibited firearms at the Federal High Court in Lokoja, Kogi on May 10.

The suspects are: Kabiru Seidu, 31, alias Osama, Nuhu Salisu, 25, alias small, Musa Mohammed, 27, alias Iko and Emmanuel Audu, 26.

The police have arrested six persons for allegedly aiding the escape of six suspects from police custody in Division ‘A’ Lokoja, Kogi State, last week Wednesday.

They include John Beneche, 22, Seye Atowoju, 27, Danjuma Yunusa, 35, Egga Ochai, 50, Abbas Haruna, 30, and Gloria Audu, 28, sister to Emmanuel, one of the re-arrested prime suspects in Senator Dino Melaye’s arms case.

Former Minister of Finance Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is to explain how about $250million of the $500million recovered from the family of the late Head of State, Gen.Sani Abacha, was withdrawn, The Nation has reported.

It was gathered that the cash was released to the Office of National Security Adviser( ONSA) without appropriation. About $36,155,000 (N13,015,800 billion) out of the $250million was also withdrawn in cash “without any purpose”on March 2nd, 9th, 16th and 18th of 2015.

Boko Haram Rains Havoc In Maiduguri, Kills Soldier, 19 Others

The military yesterday said no fewer than 20 persons, including a soldier, were killed on Sunday night in a battle to ward off a large number of suicide bombers trying to invade Maiduguri, the Borno State capital. About 84 others were injured.

Soldiers on the outskirts of Maiduguri also gunned down six armed Boko Haram gunmen and seven suicide bombers during the attack.

A teenage girl has become the latest victim to be murdered on London's streets amid a deadly crime spree which has gripped the capital.

The girl, 17, was found by police with a gunshot wound at 9.35pm in Tottenham, and died in the street at 10.43pm.

Environmental Rights Activist and Convener of Niger-Delta Self-Determination Movement, NDSDM, Ann Kio-Briggs, has warned the President Muhammadu Buhari’s government against granting amnesty to Boko Haram members with resources from the Niger Delta.

Opposing the plan, Kio-Briggs said amnesty for Boko Haram would amount to the government admitting that Nigerian government had failed and was incapable of saving Nigerians from terrorists and foreign invaders.

A father has been queried by the authorities after flogging his son with a broom and leaving him with marks all over his body. Rotiba, a single father of two, from Oke-Ijebu, Akure, Ondo State Nigeria, in what he believed to be moderate correctional measure to prevent one of his children from stealing, terribly whipped him with a bunch of broom.

A young girl was apprehended for allegedly stealing in Kisi town, Oyo state. According to Oluwatoyin Aliu, the Christian girl identified as Grace was arrested for stealing people’s properties and upon interrogation it was revealed she pretended to be a Muslim by covering her head with a hijab probably in order to gain access to her victims.

The girl is currently is police custody helping with investigation.

Meek Mill Judge denies request to reconsider prison sentence

The controversial judge presiding over the case of rapper Meek Mill has denied the requests of his legal team that she both reconsider his prison sentence and step down from the case over personal biases.

Judge Genece E. Brinkley issued a decision Monday in Philadelphia declaring that she would not recuse herself from the case and that the “All Eyes on You” rapper’s sentence of two to four years behind bars was “absolutely necessary” after he violated parole.

Abdul Hamed Salawu aka Dullar the Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Lagos is lying critically ill in hospital after being assaulted at a street carnival on Easter Sunday. His brother, Sulayman, and personal assistant, Seun were also wounded in the attack.
