Why we’re investigating Emir Sanusi – Kano Assembly Speaker


The Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Alhassan Rirum, has said that the investigation of the Emir of Kano, Mohammed Sanusi, by the House was not connected to a similar exercise being undertaken by an agency of the executive arm of the state government.
The Kano Public Complaints and Anti-corruption Commission had earlier last week announced that it had opened inquiry into alleged misappropriations of funds of the Kano Emirate Council, initially reported to run into about N6 billion, from the time Mr. Sanusi became the emir in 2014.

A 22-year old man, Onyeka Mba has been arrested and charged before a Lagos court for his involvement in breaking into the anti-robbery section of a Police Station and stealing money, phones and others valuable belonging to officers.

Appeal Court sets aside Omatseye conviction over alleged N1.5b scam


There was wide jubilation at the Court of Appeal Lagos Division Thursday when the former Director General of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, Temisan Raymond Omateseye who was convicted of alleged N1.5bn scam, by a Federal High Court in Lagos, was discharged and acquitted.

The presiding Judge Justice ‎Yargata B. Nimpar set aside the May 20, 2016 judgment that was delivered by Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia which convicted Omatseye on a 27- count charge bordering on bid rigging and contract splitting.

Wall collapses, kills 23 during wedding celebration


Police on Thursday said twenty-three people were killed and 30 injured in India when a wall collapsed on a crowd of people celebrating a wedding.

Police official Bharat Meena said that the 12-foot high wall collapsed late on Wednesday because of heavy rain, crashing down on the wedding party during dinner in a marriage hall in the western state of Rajasthan.

A 33-year-old man, Babatunde Olaogun, was Wednesday paraded by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly sending fake bank alerts to his clients to defraud them.

Olaogun, who was arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), had earlier been arraigned for impersonating the state Governor to defraud a car dealer of three vehicles.

Two killed as Lagos hoodlums clash over woman


Pandemonium ensued on Tuesday at the Iyana Ipaja end of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway as some hoodlums engaged themselves in a free-for-all during which two residents were reportedly killed.

Vehicles parked by the roadside were said to have been damaged, while some shops were looted by the rampaging hoodlums, who also dispossessed passersby of their personal effects.

80-year-old Man With His Wife and Children Break Into Shop to Steal Food Items in Lagos


One Musa Akano, an 80-year-old man, his 45-year-old wife, Kehinde, their two children and one other person were on Wednesday brought before a Chief Magistrates’ Court, sitting in Iyaganku, Ibadan, for alleged burglary and theft of food items from a shop.
 
According to Punch Metro, the accused were arraigned on a four-count charge ‎of conspiracy, burglary, stealing and receiving stolen goods.

5,500 Nigerians to be deported from Libya & Mali


A total number of 5,500 Nigerians are set to  be deported from Mali and Libya, over various migration offences ranging from human trafficking, smuggling of migrants, and non possession of valid travel documents.

The first batch of 250 Nigerians from Libya will arrive the country today. An additional batch of 250 Nigerians  would also be deported from same countries next week . Director-General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons , NAPTIP Julie Okah-Donli, made this disclosure yesterday, during her maiden visit at the agency’s zonal command in Lagos.

Two Nigerian Men shot dead in South Africa


The Nigeria Union in South Africa has said on Wednesday that two Nigerians have been shot dead in Western Cape Province of that country. Mr Mike Ibitoye, the Chairman of the Union`s chapter in the province said that the Nigerians were shot by unidentified assailants.


"Mr Ernest Ughakwesili, 42, native of Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, was shot in a night club by gunmen at Strand Area of Cape Town on Sunday. The assailants escaped after the shooting and the victim died before being rushed to the hospital," he said.

A man on trial for killing his girlfriend has claimed that she choked to death on his penis and now he wants to present it to the jury in evidence.
Richard Henry Patterson, 65, is accused of strangling Francisca Marguinez in Margate, Florida.

He claims that he has a large penis and she choked to death on it while performing oral sex.
He admits that he killed her, but denies that he did it deliberately and is to face trial for second-degree murder.
