Passengers Dead As Small Plane And Helicopter Collide In The Air


Police have said no less than four people were killed on Tuesday when a small plane and a helicopter collided in southwestern Germany.
 
NAN reports that the two aircraft crashed in the skies above the town of Philippsburg, close to the French border, a German police spokesman said, adding that he was unable to say if there may be other victims.

Dog Accidentally Shoots Owner Dead


A dog has shot dead its owner after they ventured into the snow-covered countryside hunting in Russia.
 
According to Newsweek, the 64-year-old hunter, Sergey Terekhov was apparently shot in the torso while he was letting dogs out of the trunk of a car while on a hunting trip with his brother on January 21, said the regional branch of the Investigative Committee.

Atiku condemns burning of Falae’s farm


Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has condemned the burning of a farm belonging to former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Olu Falae, by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

South African jazz legend Hugh Masekela’s long battle with prostate cancer ended on Tuesday in Johannesburg yesterday at the age of 78, his family announced, triggering an outpouring of tributes to his music, his long career, and his anti-apartheid activism.

“After a protracted and courageous battle with prostate cancer, he passed peacefully in Johannesburg, South Africa,” his family said in a statement.

The Federal Government, through the Chief Okoi Obono-Obla-led Special Presidential Investigation Panel on the Recovery of Public Property, has charged a federal civil servant, Mr. Ibrahim Tumsah and his brother, Tijani, before the Federal High Court in Abuja with failure to declare their assets to the presidential panel.

Eight Libya returnees die in crash


Eight persons among those brought back from Libya last week, have died in an accident.

Security forces in the Democratic Republic of Congo have arrested 10 priests and more than 200 protesters over Sunday’s demonstrations demanding President Joseph Kabila leave power.

The Catholic Church had called for demonstrations against the leader, whose constitutional mandate ended in 2016.  Six people were killed in the capital, Kinshasa, when police used tear gas and live bullets to disperse the protesters, which also took place in other parts of the country.
