An Ado-Ekiti Customary Court on Tuesday dissolved the eight years marriage between one Rasak Bello and his wife, Aminat, over irreconcilable differences.

The President of the court, Mrs Olayinka Akomolede, who listened to both parties, dissolved the marriage, saying it had broken down irretrievably.

Father kills son for planning to marry older woman


A man in Awka, the Anambra State capital, has allegedly killed his only son, Chibuzor, for planning to marry an older woman.

It was alleged that the man, whose name had yet to be identified, procured the services of some military men to execute the act.

A witness told our correspondent that the suspected soldiers beat the victim to a coma. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he gave up the ghost.

Petroleum Minister denies bribery allegation


Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Emmanuel Kachikwu, has denied allegations of receiving bribes in exchange for juicy oil contracts. An online news medium had alleged that the Petroleum Minister and his brother, Dumebi Kachikwu, had collected about N2 billion bribe for an oil contract but failed to deliver their own end of the bargain.

Three arrested over murder of Gulder Ultimate Search winner

Nigerians paid N2.11trn tax in seven months - FIRS


The federal inland revenue service (FIRS) says it generated a sum of N2.11 trillion as revenue from January to July 2017.
NAN reports that the service made this known in a progress report of the FIRS from January to July 2017, showing their revenue performance and impact of the new tax regime.

A breakdown of the report showed that the FIRS collected N720.28 billion as petroleum profit tax (PPT) and N542.22 billion as value added tax (VAT) revenue from January to June.

The United States federal aviation administration has given Nigerian airlines a 65-day ultimatum to resolve specified security issues or risk being barred from flying to its country.
A team of US FAA officials who recently carried out an audit for the renewal of Nigeria’s category one safety status gave the ultimatum on August 24.

The US FAA periodically check foreign airports with which it has bilateral agreements to ensure they meet set standards.

Dozens of children die at another Indian hospital


Not less than 49 children died at a state-run hospital in Northern India allegedly due to lack of medicine or oxygen, Police Chief Dayanand Misra, said on Monday.

The latest deaths were registered between July 21 and Aug. 10 in Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in Farrukhabad city in Uttar Pradesh state.

A young Indian man attempted to immolate himself outside a lawmaker’s office in Southern India after officials demanded 312 dollars bribe, officials said on Monday.

Death toll in Hurricane Harvey rises to 60


At least 60 people have died as a result of Hurricane Harvey, according to emergency management departments across southeast Texas.

The Associated Press reported many of those deaths were people drowning in flash floods or water-logged roads.

The Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) has said,  contrary to widely published  reports, it is not aware of any current discussion or negotiation with the management of Ethiopian Airlines regarding Arik Air Limited.

AMCON made the clarification in a release following media reports which claimed that there are discussions going on with Ethiopian Airlines for the carrier to render management services to Arik.
