Authorities are looking for a mother who they believe abandoned her newborn baby at Tucson International Airport with a handwritten note pleading, “I just want what is best for him and it is not me.”

Buhari sacks two judges, orders background checks on judges


Following recommendations from the National Judicial Council (NJC), President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the compulsory retirement of Justice Adeniyi Ademola of the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court and the dismissal from office of Justice O.O Tokode of the Benin Division of the Federal High Court.
According to a statement by presidential spokesperson, Garba Shehu, the disciplinary actions on the two Justices are in pursuance of section 292 (1) (b) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).

Alleged N400m Fraud: Supreme Court Rules On Metuh's Case


The Supreme Court ruled on Friday ruled on the alleged N400m and $2m case instituted against former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Olisa Metuh by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

Ruling on the matter, the Supreme Court said that Metuh, had a case to answer in respect of the money laundering charges brought against him.

According to Vanguard, the victim said the fake Oba of Lagos had promised to get her a slot at the Lekki Free Trade Zone. It will be recalled that the said fake Oba of Lagos, Salami Peter, was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Akorede Ajibade by the State Criminal Intelligence Investigation Department, SCIID, Panti, Yaba, Lagos on August 18, 2017, on charges of conspiracy, impersonation, fraud, forgery and stealing.

President Donald Trump has called on Congress to end the visa lottery programme, citing a Justice Department crackdown on a recipient who abused resident status to finance terrorist activities abroad.
“Time to end the visa lottery,” Trump said in a Twitter post.

EFCC arrests fake U.S. Army colonel


The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission says it has arrested two men for “impersonating” its operatives to obtain $10,000 by false presence.

Spokesman of the commission, Mr Wilson Uwujaren, disclosed this in a statement.

Uwujaren identified the suspects as one Mike Nkwocha and Richardson Obasogie, a “self-confessed Colonel in the United States Army”.

Herdsmen Arrested After Exchanging Fire With Soldiers


Two herdsmen were yesterday arrested in Benue State after they exchanged fire with troops 707 Special Forces Brigade troops on a routine patrol along Gbajimba – Iyiodeh road in Guma Local Government Area.

They were arrested close to a fish farm owned by Governor Samuel Ortom.

Tin Can Customs generates N29.4b in January


The Tin Can Island Customs Command of the Nigeria Customs Service generated N29.4 billion in January 2018, up from N19.8 billion generated in the corresponding period of 2017.
The Public Relations Officer of the command, Uche Ejesieme, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos on Thursday.

UK to accept naira payments from Nigerian businesses


The United Kingdom government, through its export credit agency, UK Export Finance (UKEF), says it will now accept naira payments from Nigerian business owners who make procurement in the UK.
The UK department of international trade made this known in a statement sent to TheCable.
The statement said the local currency financing structure follows the same format as a conventional buyer credit in sterling or any other currency.

The Oyo State Police Command on Thursday paraded an Islamic cleric (Alfa), a pastor, and two others, who were allegedly caught with suspected human parts in the Ayegun area of Ibadan.

The state Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Odude, said Alfa, Sulaiman Hamed, 35, participated in the Fidau prayers for a dead man but later contracted two men to exhume the corpse because he needed the body parts for money ritual.
