Disputed Warri Ogbe-Ijoh Market belongs to Itsekiri —ILoT


Itsekiri Leaders of Thought, ILoT, has insisted that the disputed Ogbe-Ijoh Market in Warri, Delta State, belongs to the Itsekiti, as it called on the state government to hand over the market to Warri South Local Government Area of the state.

ILoT, in a communiqué by its chairman, Chief Edward Ekporo and Secretary, Mr A.S Mene, after their recent meeting on Agbarha-Urhobo (Agbassa)/Ogbe-Ijoh face-off over Ogbe-Ijoh Market in Warri, said: “The cause of the crisis is the illegal collection of levies from traders in Ogbe-Ijoh Market and its surroundings up to McIver area of Warri, by both the Agbarha-Urhobo (and Ogbe-Ijoh youths on the false claim of ownership of the land on which the market is located.

Federal Government gives Nollywood over N420m additional grant


The Federal Government says it has released the sum of N420.2 million to the Nigeria film industry (Nollywood) to improve and support aspiring practitioners.

According to a statement issued by the Deputy Director of Information, Federal Ministry of Finance, Mrs. Patricia Deworitshe, on Friday in Abuja, the money, which is the second tranche payment will benefit 105 film distributors.

Two young men have been confirmed dead with several injured in a clash between youths and members of a vigilante group and in Angwan Yaman, Kontagora Local Government Area of Niger State. 

Spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, (DSP) Bala Elkana, who confirmed the incident in Minna on Friday, said the violence which broke out on Thursday was caused by the death of a 17-old boy who was allegedly tortured by members of the vigilance group.

Plateau recorded 482 cases of violence against women and girls in the last two years, an NGO, Christian Women for Excellence and Empowerment in Nigeria (CWEENS), said on Friday in Jos.
Prof. Funmi Para-Mallum, its National Coordinator, who disclosed this at a High Level Advocacy and Policy Dialogue initiated by the Plateau government, said that the cases were recorded from 2015 to early 2017 by CWEENs’ Observatory Steering Committee(OBSTEC).
