Robbers steal $500,000 from bank opposite Kenyan police station


In a heist reminiscent of a Hollywood movie, Kenyan robbers spent months building tunnel into the bowels of a bank located opposite a police station and stole equivalent of half a million dollars, police said on Tuesday.

Police said they had arrested two men and one woman over the robbery but had not recovered the 50 million Kenyan shillings, reported missing by staff at the branch of Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB).

EFCC pulls out of Abuja street but armed DSS personnel on standby


Officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have withdrawn from Mamman Nasir street, Asokoro, Abuja, where they clashed with some Department of State Services (DSS) operatives on Tuesday morning.

The secret police had prevented the anti-graft agency from arresting Ita Ekpeyong, former director-general of DSS, and Ayo Oke, sacked director-general of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA).

Apple sells gaming robots built by Nigerian


Apple Stores in the United States and United Kingdom have begun the sale of gaming robots, MekaMons, built by a Nigerian-British, Silas Adekunle.

Adekunle’s company, Reach Robotics struck the deal with Apple recently.

The product with a price tag of $299.95 went on sale from 16 November in the shops and online. The robots can  be operated with an iPhone and other smartphones.

Yakubu Aiyegbeni turns 35, retires from football


Former Super Eagles striker, Yakubu Aiyegbeni, has announced his retirement from football.

Aiyegbeni retired from football on Wednesday, which is his 35th birthday.

The 35-year-old started his career with Julius Berger FC in Lagos as a teenager in the Nigerian Premier League. He was later loaned to Portuguese club Gil Vicente. He made 250 appearances in the English Premier League, playing for Everton FC, Middlesborough FC, Portsmouth FC, and Blackburn.

Thirty-nine years old Okoro Uka was arrested alongside a Venezuelan woman, Brigette D V R Santoyo, 36, with authorities alleging the two were part of an international drugs racket.

According to The Tribune, the duo were apprehended in a hotel in the Mahipalpur area of Delhi when they were allegedly exchanging the drugs.

Big Drama as DSS operatives stop EFCC from arresting ex-DG


Officials of the Department of State Services and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission were involved in a showdown for over 13 hours on Tuesday when EFCC operatives stormed the home of the immediate past Director General of the DSS, Ekpenyong Ita, to effect his arrest.

Police arrest landlady over murder of two persons in Lagos


Lagos State Police Command has arrested two persons over alleged murder of three in a church at Temu village in Ikosi Ejirin Local Council Development Area of Lagos State.

Police boss, Imohimi Edgal, who confirmed the arrest yesterday, noted that investigation has commenced over the murder.Although speculations had it that three persons were killed, Edgal confirmed they were two and that the third has been dischargedfrom the hospital.It was learnt that the incident happened at Temu community around 2:00.am, yesterday when the assailants scaled through the fence of the victims’ house to kill them.

Government spends N8.4b yearly to feed 51,614 pre-trial inmates


The Federal Government spends an average of N8.4 billion yearly to feed awaiting trial inmates and persons in juvenile institutions. The figure excludes 23,217 inmates already convicted and serving various prison terms and 2,251 condemned inmates among whom are 47 females.Daily feeding allowance for each inmate in Nigeria is N450. Multiplied by 30 days, the figure amounts to N13,500 per person. If the population of convicted inmates was added to the figure, it would amount to N3,761,154,000 yearly, totaling N12, 161,154,000 billion for the detainees yearly.

One of the two suspects arrested for the murder of Cletus Onyekwele, a staff of Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria, Rumuobiakani, Port Harcourt, said they killed him because he was over working them

The two suspected murderers, Kingsley Nwankor and Joseph Francis, were paraded by the Rivers State Police Command last Friday, at the command Headquarters.

An electronics dealer in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State, Lukman Lambo, may have to undergo a surgery to regain the use of his left eye.

The injury was allegedly inflicted on him by soldiers, who also dragged him on the street.

It was said that the girlfriend of one of the soldiers had a disagreement with Lukman’s younger brother, Saheed Lambo.
