Uganda Charges 45 Rwandan Citizens With Terrorism


A government-controlled newspaper in Uganda says 45 Rwandan nationals have been charged with terrorism and establishing a terror organization.

The New Vision reported Friday that the suspects were charged Thursday in a remote town in western Uganda. The report gives few details about the charges.

Nine Killed As Gunmen Attack Egypt Church


A gunman today opened fire at a church in south of Cairo, killing at least nine people before policemen shot him dead, officials and state media said.

Health ministry spokesman Khaled Megahed told state television that the gunman who was shot dead had killed nine people and wounded others, including a police officer.

Mrs. Rose Iboko, widow of the heroic police officer, Chukwudi Iboko, received a cheque of N4,690,144.64; while Mrs. Blessing Agbo, widow of the second victim, Sergeant Sunday Agbo, got investment and cash totalling N2,258,217.79.

India likens bitcoin to Ponzi schemes


India warned Friday against investing in cryptocurrencies, including bitcoin, likening them to “Ponzi schemes”, as it became the latest country to urge caution.
Despite a boom in trade that has seen prices soar, cryptocurrencies “don’t have intrinsic value and are not backed by any kind of assets,” the Indian finance ministry said in a statement.

NLC threatens strike if petrol scarcity persists into New Year


The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has threatened it would embark on industrial action if the petrol scarcity biting the country persists into the New Year.

NLC gave the threat in a statement issued on Friday, December 29.

The statement however lauded the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, for directing the Senate Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream) to cut short its recess and immediately convene industry stakeholders meeting to tackle the petrol crisis.

Woman survives after being tosed into freezing river


An Arkansas woman, who was kidnapped and tossed from a bridge into an almost frozen river after witnessing a fatal shooting, somehow was able to swim to safety.

According to KATV, Little Rock Police said they found the woman, 42, after receiving a 911 call from someone who heard her screaming for help near the banks of the Arkansas River. The unnamed victimtold police she had been thrown off the I-430 bridge into the frigid waters, but was able to will herself to land.

257 more Nigerians return from Libya


About 257 Nigerians on Thursday returned from Libya, barely 24 hours after the National Emergency Management Agency received 157 persons on Wednesday.
 The 152 adults females, 82 adult males, nine children and 14 infants bring the number of people rescued by the International Migration Organisation with assistance from the European Union to 6, 672 between January and December 28, 2017.
