Police woman pours House Maid with hot water, soup for being disobedient


A police woman,  Mrs. Ugo Okochi, who is presently nursing a child poured hot water and hot melon soup on her 15 year old house help, Miss Chinyere Igwe at her residence along Mile 50 layout Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, over alleged disobedience to the directive of the woman.

The woman was said to have poured the girl with hot soup and water after the girl was directed to fry the melon, but she mistakenly forgot and poured the melon inside the soup without frying it.

Two aides of President Muhammadu Buhari last night said the ailing Nigerian leader might head home within a week, subject to clearance by his doctors.

Notorious gangster released from prison at age 100 [Photo]


John "Sonny" Franzese, a reputed underboss of the Colombo crime family, was released from a Massachusetts prison hospital on Friday at age 100, ending his tenure as the oldest inmate in a U.S. federal prison, his son and media reports said.
Franzese has been in and out of prison for much of his adult life, having been granted parole by the U.S. Bureau of Prisons at least six times, Newsday reported.

Arrest of Arewa youth will lead to crisis – Junaid Mohammed


A Second Republic lawmaker and Northern elder, Dr. Junaid Mohammed has said the arrest of Arewa youths over the quit notice issued to Igbos will lead to crisis.

Media watchdog slams demand to shut Al Jazeera


Reporters Without Borders, a non-profit organisation promoting press freedom, has condemned the demand by Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries to shut Al Jazeera network and other media outlets in Qatar.
The Gulf states issued a 13-point list on Friday, demanding the closure of all news outlets that it funds, directly and indirectly, including Arabi21, Rassd, Al Araby Al Jadeed, Mekameleen and Middle East Eye.

The federal government has reopened investigation into allegations of sexual molestation against Olaseni Osifala, a teacher at Queen’s College, Lagos, TheCable can report.

In March 2016, one Chinenye Okoye, a student of the school, alleged that Osifala sexually harassed her. Some other students reportedly made the same claim.
The claims sparked off an outcry as parents and citizens called for the sack and the prosecution of the teacher.

Six pilgrims injured as Saudi security foils attack in Mecca


The Saudi interior ministry says it has arrested five people who planned to attack the Grand Mosque in Mecca.
Mansour al-Turki, security spokesperson of the ministry, said operatives stopped a plot to attack the mosque on Friday.
Quoting security operatives, Al Arabiya, Saudi-owned news website, said the operation was planned by three extremist groups, two based in Mecca and the third in Jedah.

Google will no longer read your mails for personalized ads


Google says that it will no longer scan the contents of mails on its free Gmail service for the use of personalized adverts.
The company made this announcement in a blog post on Friday, saying the policy change would be effected later on in 2017.
In the past, privacy advocates have criticized Google’s practice of using email data to bring personalized adverts to users.

The Igbo crime culture


In the sweltering heat of a serial lynching and killing of Igbo citizens in Asia in 2013, I wrote an article entitled, ‘The Igbo fallacy’. In it, I appealed to the Igbo to de-emphasise the culture of profligacy, decadent opulence, debauchery and vanity which fuels the pursuit of crime by their own.

I am compelled to revivify the article here, but with a few adjustments. I say it again; the Igbo take the inglorious front row in certain crimes – drug peddling, armed robbery and kidnapping – at home and abroad.

Arewa group says Confab report must not be implemented


The Arewa Liberation Movement (ALM) says the 2014 Confab recommendations must not he implemented because the report was drafted to “favour a particular group”.
