Body of missing 5-yr-old boy found inside cesspit in Abuja

A five-year-old boy, Desmond Rabome, has been found dead in a cesspit at an uncompleted house in Ushafa community, Abuja, after missing for days.

Desmond, who started living with his maternal aunt, Mrs. Joy Odufo, in February after the death of his mother, reportedly went missing at about at 6.30 p.m. on June 28.

Odufo, who is the elder sister to Desmond’s father, alleged that the matter was reported at the Ushaffa Police station but no action was taken to search for the missing boy.

Five members of a family in Umuokpara Umanu, Obollo community in Isiala Mbano area of Imo State have died after a meal of jollof rice. The deceased are Mr. Vitalis Nwosu, his wife, Obianuju, and their three children, Chinonso, Chinasa and Odimnobi.

Vanguard gathered that Mrs. Obianuju Nwosu served the family jollof rice, which she prepared for dinner, and not long after they started experiencing stomach ache, stooling and vomiting.

Zimbabwe to boost bond notes, as cash woes mount – report

As Zimbabwe’s cash crisis worsens, top banking officials say there are plans to boost a bond note facility, reports said on Sunday.

Bond notes were introduced in November backed by a $200 million loan from the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank). The small denomination notes and coins have no value outside Zimbabwe.

Federal Government gives Nollywood over N420m additional grant

The Federal Government says it has released the sum of N420.2 million to the Nigeria film industry (Nollywood) to improve and support aspiring practitioners.

According to a statement issued by the Deputy Director of Information, Federal Ministry of Finance, Mrs. Patricia Deworitshe, on Friday in Abuja, the money, which is the second tranche payment will benefit 105 film distributors.

28 hurt in US nightclub shooting

Twenty-five people were shot and three others injured in an early morning nightclub shooting in the southern US state of Arkansas, police said Saturday.

Plateau recorded 482 cases of violence against women and girls in the last two years, an NGO, Christian Women for Excellence and Empowerment in Nigeria (CWEENS), said on Friday in Jos.

US state allows college students, teachers to carry guns on campuses

Students and professors will be legally allowed to carry concealed handguns onto college campuses starting Saturday in the US state of Kansas.

The concealed carry law was enacted four years ago and applied to all public buildings, but colleges in the Midwestern state were exempted until July of this year.

DSS probes source of herdsmen’s weapons

The Department of State Services (DSS) has started probing the source of weapons used by herdsmen to attack their victims, Punch reports.

A top security officer with the DSS told Punch that the recent call by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Saad Abubakar, in which he advised the Federal Government to probe the sources of weapons used by herdsmen accused of attacking Nigerian communities, was just “a reminder.”

Pastor jailed five years for raping church member’s daughter

An Abeokuta High Court sitting in Isabo, on Friday sentenced a cleric, Johnson Adeleke, to five years imprisonment for raping a 14- year-old member of his church.

Adeleke, the pastor of a new generation church in Abeokuta, was docked on one-count charge of rape contrary to Section 258 (1) of the Criminal Code Law of Ogun 2006.
