Salah, Oshoala win African Player of the Year Awards


Mohammed Salah of Egypt and Nigeria’s Azeezat Oshoala have emerged as the winners of African Player of the year award for Men and Women respectively.
Both players were announced as the winners in the top categories at Thursday’s ceremony at the Accra International Conference Centre.

A North Korean missile reportedly crashed into one of its own cities after it failed just minutes following its launch.
US officials said the Hwasong-12 intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM) was initially thought to have disintegrated mid-flight after it was fired on 28 April last year.

Policeman killed, others injured in Gov Ishaku’s convoy accident


A police intelligence officer attached to the wife of Taraba governor, Barr. Mrs. Anna Darius Ishaku, died Thursday evening when his vehicle in the convoy of Governor Darius Ishaku had accident along Bali Jalingo road.

Two other occupants of the vehicle, a CIB police officer and a nurse are said to be in a critical condition at the time of filing this report.

Kogi government has reacted to the death of a director in the civil service, Alphonsus Ameh.

The deceased, a Grade Level 17 officer in the Kogi State Pension Board, died barely three days after receiving sack letter.

On Thursday, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Yahaya Bello, Petra Onyegbule said Ameh was sacked due to his alleged involvement in fraudulent diversion of N225,936,425million pension fund.

Trump Demands That Publisher Halt Release of Critical Book


President Trump escalated his attack on a new book  portraying him as a volatile and ill-equipped chief executive on Thursday as his legal team demanded that the author and publisher halt its release and apologize or face a possible lawsuit.

In an 11-page letter, the president’s lawyer said the book, “Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House,” by Michael Wolff, as excerpted in a magazine article, includes false statements about Mr. Trump that “give rise to claims for libel” that could result in “substantial monetary damages and punitive damages.”

Leave or Face Imprisonment - Israel Issues "90 Days Ultimatum" to African Migrants


The Israeli government has issued a notice for thousands of African migrants to leave the country or face imprisonment.
 
The migrants will be given up to $3,500 (£2,600) for leaving within the next 90 days.
 
They will be given the option of going to their home country or third countries.

Lagos Police Command Dismisses 9 Officers, Demotes 20 Others


The Lagos State Police Command has announced the dismissal of nine policemen found guilty of various offences.
 
The Command also revealed that 20 others were demoted for offences bordering on gross insubordination, incivility and drunkenness, among others.

Igbudu explained that his uncle, Julius Ntwangwa, who worked with the Benue State Agriculture and Rural Development Agency, was among those killed by the herdsmen, who dropped his corpse at the back of the house.

44-year old woman stabbed to death on the streets of London


A 44-year-old woman has died after she was stabbed to death on a residential street in East London yesterday evening January 3rd. Paramedics found the woman suffering seriously stab wounds and unresponsive in Norfolk Road, Ilford and called in the police. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after 7pm.

France Invests €350m in Nigeria


The Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to France, Dr Modupe Irele, on Tuesday announced that France invested about N150 billion (350 million euros) in Nigeria in 2017.

“It is estimated that in 2017 alone, France invested around 350 million Euros (about N150 billion) in Nigeria, mostly through soft loans to both the Federal and State governments and the private sector.
