Nigeria to grow by 2.5% in 2018, says World Bank


The World Bank forecasts that economic growth in Nigeria would edge up to at least 2.5 per cent in 2018, as the country benefits from improved commodity prices, investments and trade.
According to the World Bank’s January 2018 Global Economic Prospect report launched on Tuesday in Washington DC, Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is expected to grow by 2.8 per cent in 2019 and 2020.

Wife Poisons Husband Two Weeks After Wedding


The Kano State Police Command on Tuesday confirmed the arrest of a teenage wife, Sadiya Umar, who allegedly poisoned her husband, Sani Umar, killing him two weeks after their wedding.

Nigeria’s  crude production now stands 1.8 million barrel per day without condensate, and 2.5million per day with condensate, the Group Managing Director, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) , Dr. Maikanti Baru, has said.

Ex-Perm Sec Forfeits N664m, $137,680 To FG


The Federal High Court in Lagos on Tuesday ordered a former Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, Clement Onubuogo, to forfeit to the Federal Government the sums of N664,475,246.6 and $137,680.11 found in his bank accounts.

Justice Saliu Saidu gave the forfeiture order in response to an application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

Contractors owe govt N100bn in tax liabilities - Adeosun


 The Federal Government on Tuesday said about N100bn has been discovered as tax revenue shortfall by contractors between 2012 and 2017.

The figure was given by the Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, in a statement issued by her Special Adviser, Media and Communications Mr. Oluyinka Akintunde.

The minister, in the statement, said she had ordered vendors of Ministries, Departments and Agencies to display their Tax Identification Numbers on their invoices before they make payments.

Bricklayer Kills Graduate Wife Over Overseas Plan


The Lagos State Police Command has declared a 34-year-old bricklayer, Akinyemi Edgar, wanted for allegedly killing his wife, Ajoke, in the Mowo, Badagry area of Lagos State.

Punch Metro learnt that the suspect beat the 28-year-old to death during a disagreement at their home and dragged her corpse on the ground to a place near the community well, where he buried her.

Prophet Caught With Decomposing Head in Akwa Ibom State


An alleged man of God, Prophet Israel Effiong Okon has been arrested by men of the Federal Road Safety Corps ( FRSC ) in Akwa Ibom after he was found in possession of a decomposing human head in Mbak Itam, Itu Local Government Area of the state.

FG Bans Open Grazing To Curb Herdsmen-Farmers Clashes


Open grazing of cattle was banned yesterday by the Federal Government – to stem the growing anger sparked by the killings in Benue and other states.

All herdsmen must henceforth ranch their cattle. The decision was taken at the end of a six-hour meeting of a Federal Government delegation, security agencies and five governors.
