Delta govt invites Niger-Delta Avengers for dialogue

Delta State Deputy Governor and Chairman Advocacy Committee Against Vandalism of Oil and Gas Facilities Kingsley Otuaro has appealed to Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) to sheathe their swords.

He said they should come to the dialogue table.

NDA hinted days ago of intention to attack oil assets in a resumed programme tagged: ‘Operation red economy’, aimed at bringing the country’s oil production and export capacity and hence its largely oil-based economy to ground zero.

Buhari is healthy to seek re-election in 2019 – Adesina

Presidential Spokesman, Mr Femi Adesina, says President Muhammadu Buhari is presently in a better state of health than in 2015, to seek re-election in the 2019 general elections.

Adesina said this while speaking with State House correspondents in Abuja on Sunday.

He said though the president was yet to decide on whether to re-contest or not, his health would never be an issue as he had been improving tremendously since his return from medical vacation.

Busari Rukayat, 23, has narrated how she was raped by a suspected land grabber, Ade Ikudaisi, in Ajegunle/Malato, Itaoluwo, Ikorodu area of Lagos State. The man then went further to insert kolanut in her private part.

The seamstress, who is critically ill and receiving treatment in a private hospital, said the rape occurred about a fortnight ago, at about 2pm, on her way from Church.

Court overturns ban on Bollywood movie Padmaavat

India’s Supreme Court Thursday overturned a ban on a Bollywood film imposed by four states ahead of its country-wide release later this month.

The ban on Padmaavat was imposed by the western states of Rajasthan and Gujarat as well as northern state of Haryana and central state of Madhya Pradesh, citing law and order problems after protests by the Rajput community.

Niger Delta youth demand oil and gas colony

The Niger Delta Youth Leadership Forum (PANDLEAF) has asked the federal government to establish an oil and gas colony in the region.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Bayelsa state chapter of PANDLEAF in Yenagoa on Saturday, Richard Akinaka, president of the forum, said if the government wants colony for cattle, the Niger Delta people also need one for oil and gas.

Police fraud unit arrests 20 visa racketeers

The Police Special Fraud Unit (PSFU) claimed to have arrested over 20 suspects that specialised in counterfeiting entry visas of some foreign countries.

Spokesman for the PSFU, Audi Lawal, said in a statement yesterday that the visa racketeers were arrested at several embassies of the foreign countries in Lagos.

Doctor Contacts Lassa Fever In Kogi

Kogi State has recorded a fresh outbreak of Lassa fever as an unnamed medical doctor working with the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Lokoja, has contacted the disease.

Briefing journalists on Saturday in Lokoja, the Chief Medical Director of FMC, Dr. Olatunde Alabi, said the doctor was diagnosed of the disease on January 19.

Sambo Dasuki’s aide under probe over diversion of N36.4 Billion

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has traced N3.12billion to the bank account of a company allegedly owned by a Special Assistant to a former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd).

The sum is suspected to have been diverted from about N36.4billion voted by the Goodluck Jonathan administration for the protection of dams, wells and sources of water in the North-East against being poisoned by Boko Haram.

16 states ready for FG’s cattle colonies

Sixteen of the 36 states have signified intention to be part of the cattle colonies initiative of the federal government according to The Nation newspaper

More are expected to join, according to Dr. Olukayode Oyedele, Special Assistant to Agriculture Minister, Audu Ogbeh. Oyedele did not name the 16 states or those in line to join the initiative.

Air force deploys N9.7bn helicopters seized by FG

The second Bell 412 Helicopter, which was among the two aircraft seized by the Nigeria Customs Service in January 2017, has been deployed by the Nigerian Air Force.

The air force said on Saturday in a release that the aircraft was deployed, following the induction of the first helicopter in November 2017.
