South Africa’s Jacob Zuma faces corruption trial

South Africa’s former President, Jacob Zuma, is to face prosecution for 18 charges of corruption, the director of public prosecutions has confirmed.

They include more than 700 counts of fraud, racketeering and money laundering. He denies the charges.

Mr Zuma, 75, was forced to resign as president last month by his party, the ruling African National Congress (ANC).

Teacher Arrested While Writing JAMB For Brother

As the conduct of the 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, inches towards end on Saturday, a primary school teacher, Timothy Samson, has been arrested while impersonating his brother.

Mr Samuel Timothy, a 30 year old teacher, was picked up after the Eagle eyes of security personnel from the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, and some personnel of JAMB detected that he was not a candidate of the examination he was writing at the Air Mass Computer Institute, in Madalla, Niger State.

Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata has not made the Spain squad for this month’s friendlies against Germany and Argentina.

The 25-year-old, who moved from Real Madrid in the summer for £75m, has not scored for Chelsea in 2018 and has started the Blues’ last three matches on the bench.

Iraqi asylum seeker guilty of London Tube bombing

An 18-year-old Iraqi asylum seeker was on Friday found guilty of attempted murder over the botched bombing of a rush-hour London Underground train that injured 30 people.

“The prosecution argued that Ahmed Hassan made this homemade bomb with the aim of indiscriminately killing as many people as possible. The jury has agreed,” said Sue Hemming from the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) after the verdict at London’s Old Bailey.

Man in court for allegedly stealing microphones, speakers in churches

An unemployed man, Peter Adeoye, 28, who allegedly stole microphones and speakers valued at N325, 000 from two churches, on Friday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

Adeoye, who resides at No.1, Alade St., Iba new site, Igando, a suburb of Lagos, is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, burglary and stealing.

Appeal Court okays Senator Melaye’s recall process

The Abuja division of the Court of Appeal has okayed the reccall process of Senator Dino Melaye, representing Kogi West senatorial District of Kogi state.

The court in its judgement in the appeal ordered the Indpendeent National Electoral Commission to commence the reecall process of the senator.

ANC: Jacob Zuma innocent until proven guilty

The ANC on Friday said it noted the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) decision to reinstate charges against former president Jacob Zuma but highlighted that he was innocent until proven guilty.

“Accordingly we call on South Africans at large to afford the NPA space to conduct its work unhindered‚ we continue to assert the inalienable right of all in our country‚ including Comrade Jacob Zuma‚ to be presumed innocent until and if proven guilty‚” said ANC spokesperson Pule Mabe.

Buhari jittery about herdsmen but declared IPOB terrorists – Soyinka explodes

Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has lambasted President Muhammadu Buhari for allegedly treating killer herdsmen with kid gloves.

Soyinka, while speaking at the Ripples Nigeria Dialogue in Lagos, on Thursday, charged the president to declare herdsmen terrorists.

“We expect the president to have the courage to declare such monsters as terrorists and enemies of humanity with the same dispatch in which he declared the far less violent, albeit, disruptive IPOB terrorists. We expect a culture of even-handedness”, he said.

A bride to be, identified as Yu Qing Weng, has been dragged to court by her jilted groom, Jin Dong of Manhattan, who according to the lawsuit, she “inducted to marry her … without any intention of keeping her promise in order to obtain the money and jewelry”. 

In the lawsuit filed on Wednesday, Jin Dong accused the Brooklyn woman of stealing $287,033 in cash gifts, jewelry and costs linked to their pre-wedding reception, and moving out of their home in August 2017 without getting married to him.

Over 18 Cows Dead As ”Witch” Lightening Strikes On A Farmland.

Mugabe, 94, told South African broadcaster SABC in the broadcast aired Thursday that he was pushed out by the military, which staged a takeover that led to Mugabe’s resignation after 37 years in power. He says “it was a coup,” adding “we must undo this disgrace.”
