Police arrest 15-yr-old Pupil with a gun in Bayelsa

A 15-year-old pupil at the Community Secondary School, Akenfa-Epie, in the Yenagoa Area of Bayelsa State, identified only as Emmanuel, has been arrested with a gun.

Emmanuel was allegedly arrested on Monday with a locally-made pistol during lecture hours.

It was learnt that the teenager was apprehended while in school uniform by some indigenes of Akenfa community, led by a vigilance group, and handed over to the police.

Cultists invade Police station in Bayelsa

Suspected armed cultists have attacked the Divisional headquarter of the Nigerian Police Force in Oporoma, the headquarters of the Southern Ijaw Local Government area and set the station ablaze.

It was gathered that the attack on the police station was carried out after a suspected cultist involved in the rescue mission of another cult member from the police was shot dead.

According to Arch convener of a Non-Governmental Organization, Patriotism Advancement and Community Orientation Network, Comrade Aluzu Ebikebuna Augustine, the incident threw the community into chaos.

INEC fixes date to commence Dino Melaye’s recall

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Kogi state on Wednesday announced dates for the commencement of the recall process of the embattled lawmaker representing Kogi West, Senator Dino Melaye.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, in the state, Prof. James Apam, disclosed that following the appellate court ruling that INEC can commence the recall process, the commission has fixed the last Saturday of April as the verification date.

Our prayers over Dapchi girls have been answered - Saraki

President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, has described the release of 101 of the 110 abducted Dapchi schoolgirls as the answer to prayers of millions of Nigerians.

In a statements signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, Saraki commended President Muhammadu Buhari, the Nigerian security forces and the government of Yobe State for the efforts that led to the release of the girls, stating that the government should do all within its power to ensure the return of the remaining Dapchi and Chibok girls.

Trader bags two months imprisonment for theft

Lagos market traders paraded for armed robbery and cultism

Six Ladipo Market traders have been arrested and paraded by the police for their alleged involvement in armed robbery and cultism in Lagos. It was gathered that the suspects were Nwapa Chukwuebuka, 20, Oganna Effita, 22, Seth Frank,29, Obiora Nwagbaso, 20, Chibike Ozor, 25 and Moses Ikechukwu, 25.

They were paraded by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Imohimi Edgal at the Police Command, Ikeja, Lagos. The traders were among other suspected criminals paraded by the police for committing various criminal offences including armed robbery and cultism.

Confusion as OAU management forces students out of hostels

Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) has begun throwing out students and their luggage, in a bid to renovate the hostels, after a short notice was issued 24 hours earlier. A confrontation erupted at the Moremi hall, a female hostel, where some students including student activists and journalists were reportedly manhandled.

Police arrest four suspected rustlers, recovers 176 cows in Nasarawa

The Police Command in Nasarawa State says it has arrested four suspected rustlers, recovered 176 cows and 64 sheep at Bakoro village in Nasarawa Local Government Area of the state.

DSP Kennedy Idirisu, the command’s Public Relations Officer, told newsmen on Wednesday in Lafia.

He said the arrest followed a joint operation by the counter-terrorism unit of the police with the Federal and State Anti-robbery Squad.

The former Spanish international is accused of three crimes of tax fraud between 2010 and 2012, for income related to the exploitation of his image rights.

The complaint against Alonso is that he avoided paying taxes on his image rights in Spain by handing the rights to a company based on the Portuguese island of Madeira, where he was exempt from taxes.

Two Myanmar reporters have appeared in a court 100 days after they were arrested on charges of possessing secret government documents.

The court in Yangon is holding preliminary hearings to decide whether the two journalists, who work for the Reuters news agency, will face charges under the Official Secrets Act – a British Colonial era law that carries a maximum penalty of 14 years in prison.
