Lagos State Polytechnic Female Student Commits Suicide By Drinking Rat Poison

A student of Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH), Damilola Adegoke has reportedly committed suicide by drinking “sniper”. Details are still sketchy but it was gathered that on Tuesday, Damilola’s mum came back home to find her daughter lying on the floor with an insecticide.

US slaps sanctions on Venezuela Supreme Court judges

The United States has imposed sanctions on Venezuela’s chief judge and seven other members of the country’s Supreme Court as punishment for seizing powers from the opposition-led congress earlier this year.

Those targeted will have their assets frozen within US jurisdiction, and US citizens will be barred from doing business with them, the US treasury department said on Thursday.

A 1982 painting by Jean-Michel Basquiat sold Thursday for $110.5 million, the highest price paid at auction for a work by an American artist.

It is also a world record price ever paid for contemporary work of art.

Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa purchased Basquiat’s painting “Untitled,” which first sold for $19,000 in 1984.

Senate stops Gbajabiamila’s brother from assuming office as lottery board chief

The upper legislative chamber, the Senate has stopped President Muhammadu Buhari’s nominee for the position of Director-General, National Lottery Regulatory Commission, Lanre Gbajabiamila, from performing his functions until his nomination is approved by Senate.

The Senate warned the nominee who is a younger brother of House of Representatives, Majority Leader, Femi Gbajabiamila, not to be seen within the vicinity of the commission.

Hitches: JAMB to reschedule exams for candidates

The Registrar, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, has said that candidates who experienced technical issues while sitting for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination would be rescheduled to resit the examination.

He said candidates to resit the exams include those who were logged out by the systems and could not answer the questions.

Lagos, FCT, Rivers lead in public complaints against police

Lagos, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Rivers recorded the highest number of complaints against police officers by members of the public.

The Public Compliant Rapid Response Unit (PCRRU) disclosed this in its 2017 first quarter report released in Abuja Thursday.

According to the report, the Unit received 498 cases between January and March this year from various parts of the country.

Photos: Police arrest two Nigerian men in India for supplying drugs, recovers 2kg heroin

The Ludhiana police on Wednesday, May 17th, arrested two Nigerian nationals identified as Celestine Ikeweta (37) and Edeh Sunday Chukwudi, 29, from Delhi for supplying drugs in Punjab and recovered 2kg heroin from two places in the district after their interrogation.

Deputy inspector general (Ludhiana range) Yurinder Singh Hayer said that during investigation of a previous case in which an accused, Balvir Singh, was arrested with heroin, it was found that two Nigerians, residing at Vikas Puri in New Delhi, are the suppliers of the drugs.
