Mass protest in Morocco after two die in coal mine


Thousands of people protested in northeast Morocco on Monday against economic marginalisation after two young men died while digging in an abandoned coal mine.

The deaths on Friday of the two brothers, aged 23 and 30, sparked a wave of anger in the city of Jerada, according to Moroccan media.

Former Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori, who is currently serving a 25-year prison sentence for human rights abuses, was pardoned on Sunday for "humanitarian and health reasons." 

According to a statement from current President Pedro Paulo Kuczynski's office, Fujimori "suffers from a progressive, degenerative and incurable disease. Prison conditions mean a serious risk to his life, health and integrity."

Lagos to deploy over 900,000 electronically tracked waste bins


The Visionscape Group has taken delivery of a fresh batch of environment sanitation trucks to beef up its fleet ahead of the formal launch of the Cleaner Lagos Initiative (CLI) in early 2018.

The batch comprising compactors, trash trucks, trailer heads and other utility vehicles, were driven in an extended convoy from the port to one of the Group’s maintenance depots in Lagos.

WHO Confirms 32 Yellow Fever Cases In Nigeria


The World Health Organisation, WHO, says there were 32 positive cases of yellow fever infection in Nigeria between 2nd of July through 19th of December 2017.

The confirmed cases are part of 63 samples sent to the regional reference laboratory, Institut Pasteur de Dakar, IPD, in Senegal, for confirmation of yellow fever infection from 341 suspected cases reported from 16 states of the Federation.

A 17-year-old in northern Virginia is facing two counts of murder for allegedly killing his girlfriend's parents after the couple tried to get their daughter to stop dating him because of his suspected neo-Nazi views.

According to police and family members who spoke to the media, the couple, Scott and Buckley Kuhn-Fricker, were shot in their home by the teenager, who then shot himself.
