Uganda Charges 45 Rwandan Citizens With Terrorism

A government-controlled newspaper in Uganda says 45 Rwandan nationals have been charged with terrorism and establishing a terror organization.

The New Vision reported Friday that the suspects were charged Thursday in a remote town in western Uganda. The report gives few details about the charges.

Nine Killed As Gunmen Attack Egypt Church

A gunman today opened fire at a church in south of Cairo, killing at least nine people before policemen shot him dead, officials and state media said.

Health ministry spokesman Khaled Megahed told state television that the gunman who was shot dead had killed nine people and wounded others, including a police officer.

India likens bitcoin to Ponzi schemes

India warned Friday against investing in cryptocurrencies, including bitcoin, likening them to “Ponzi schemes”, as it became the latest country to urge caution.

Despite a boom in trade that has seen prices soar, cryptocurrencies “don’t have intrinsic value and are not backed by any kind of assets,” the Indian finance ministry said in a statement.

NLC threatens strike if petrol scarcity persists into New Year

The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has threatened it would embark on industrial action if the petrol scarcity biting the country persists into the New Year.

NLC gave the threat in a statement issued on Friday, December 29.
