The big transfer story of
Wednesday so far, came from Le Parisien, who all summer long have
been updating about the future of Leicester midfielder N’Golo Kante.
According to the Paris
newspaper, Chelsea have agreed a 29 million pound fee for the key Leicester
midfielder.
This came as some surprise,
considering that Chelsea have no European football next season, but it does
seem likely that Kante will leave Leicester this summer.
For much of the summer it has
been apparent that Kante has a release clause that will see the French
midfielder depart Leicester to a bigger club.
Leicester still
hoping to hold onto Kante
Just hours after the Le
Parisien report emerged, the Leicester Mercury, a local paper in Leicester has
very much rubbished the rumours.
It very much reads like a
statement from Leicester.
According to James Sharpe:
“Leicester City have NOT agreed a £29million fee with Chelsea for midfielder
N’Golo Kante… City have already offered Kante a new deal, which has been
reported to be around £100,000 a week, which would make him one of the club’s
highest-paid players alongside Jamie Vardy.”
It certainly feels that
Chelsea’s pursuit of Kante could well end up like Arsenal’s desire to sign
Jamie Vardy earlier this summer.
The Leicester Mercury also add
that the following clubs are also tracking the Kante situation: “Real Madrid,
Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United, Juventus and Shanghai SIPG.”
For a number of days now, the
Spanish press have consistently reported that Real Madrid are keen on Kante to
supplement Casemiro as their only defensive midfield option.
Real Madrid still seem the
most likely option for N’Golo Kante…
