Wamakko, a Nigerian senator has condemned what he termed as “false and
malicious story” published by “an online newspaper” alleging that a series of meetings
were held in his house to strategize on how the impeachment of President
Muhammadu Buhari.
Senator Wamakko, the chairperson of the senate committee on basic and
secondary education, issued a statement on Wednesday, July 13, 2016
to “set the records straight” by stating that a meeting was actually held
in his residence “towards finding amicable solution to the frosty relationship”
between the the presidency and the senate.
“My attention was drawn to a false and malicious story published by an
online newspaper that a series of meetings were held in my residence to
strategize on the impeachment proceedings of President Muhammadu Buhari,”
Wamakko said.
“To set the records straight, a meeting was only held in my residence
towards finding amicable solution to the frosty relationship between the
executive and legislature,”
The statement, which was e-mailed to The Trent, did not
mention the names of other senators who attended the meeting or when the
meetings held.
Wamakko, who is an All Progressives Congress, APC senator representing
Sokoto North Senatorial District, reaffirmed his support for his party and the
president saying, “I have no cause to scheme against the president and the
party I campaigned for or the cause I believe in.”
“Let me once again reiterate that we hold the president in high esteem,
and we will do our best towards ensuring that there is cordial relationship and
harmony between the two arms of government,” he added.
There are growing concerns within the Nigerian presidency that the
senate is plotting an impeachment against President Muhammadu Buhari for
constitutional breaches committed in his one year in office.
