A man’s proposal to his girlfriend seemed perfect after she said yes until the hot-air balloon they were in crashed into a field in Canada.
Stephen Martin popped the question to his girlfriend Christine Peters in Alberta on Saturday. He fulfilled her childhood dream of riding in a hot-air balloon that day when they boarded one in Edmonton, according to CCTV.
Stephen Martin popped the question to his girlfriend Christine Peters in Alberta on Saturday. He fulfilled her childhood dream of riding in a hot-air balloon that day when they boarded one in Edmonton, according to CCTV.
“All of a sudden, we're still 30 or 40 feet up in the air and just the whole thing shakes and you hear like cracking of branches, and we're in a tree,” Peters told the TV station.
Passengers told ABC News the hot-air balloon hit a tree and then got caught in another before crashing into a farmer’s field.
Martin told the network he proposed on one knee when the balloon made it into the air. He added that when the balloon was trying to land, the pilot had indicated it was moving at a fast pace.
There were no serious injuries reported.
Despite his fears of heights, Martin said he’s glad he went through the experience to please his girlfriend.
“I’m actually glad we went out because it was kind of like a crazy adventure … plus, seeing how I proposed to her, too, it makes for an awesome story,” he told CCTV.
