A Bulawayo woman who was dragged to court by her husband yesterday for divorce, refused to accept separation arguing that he infected her with HIV.
Trines Masiya, 31, told the court Hlangabeza Ndlovu, 40, who has five wives, infected her with HIV and she will not agree to separate with him because it is his responsibility to take care of their two-year-old daughter.
Ndlovu told magistrate Victor Mpofu that he wants to divorce Masiya because she simply does not understand and she likes having unnecessary fights with him.
"We went for counselling and it did not change anything," Ndlovu said. "She never listens despite the fact that I support her and the baby. Yes I have five wives but she's the only one who always causes problems and for that I want a divorce.
"I am prepared to equally share everything I bought with her and I have no problem with that. All I want is for her to get out of my life and if she applies for maintenance I am prepared to pay and support my daughter."
Masiya said she would not leave her husband even if the divorce is legally officialised because she has nowhere to go.
"Where will I live with my daughter and what will we feed on?" Masiya said.
"Magistrate you should not allow a man like Ndlovu go around spreading HIV virus then dump us women like animals. He once sent me packing to my rural home and he came back apologising but now he wants to dump me again."
Ndlovu, who works at PPC, said Masiya once collected almost all the property and transferred it to her rural home before she slashed maize crops in their two fields.
He left the court in stitches when he produced maize crops that were destroyed by his wife.
"What kind of a wife destroys where she will benefit, she cut down half of the crops we grew the whole rainy season. I want a divorce," Ndlovu said.
