The Nigerian Police in Bauchi state said on Wednesday that gunmen had snatched two Hilux vans belonging to the United Nations following an attack on Soro town in Ganjuwa Local Government Area of the state. Soro town is on Bauchi – Maiduguri highway.
The Bauchi Command’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), DSP Haruna Mohammed, said the incident occurred on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
Mohammed said that the attackers, numbering about 20, also snatched another Hilux van belonging to the Bauchi State Television Authority (BATV).
He gave the registration numbers of the snatched vehicles as 206 UN, 139 UN and 04C – o4 BA, respectively.
The police spokesman said that one person later died from gun injuries sustained during the attack.
“Unknown gunmen numbering about 20 have stormed Soro town in Ganjuwa Local Government Area on Tuesday evening snatching three Hilux vehicles. In a bid to escape, the assailants opened fire sporadically where a stray bullet hit one Bose Bappa, who later died in the hospital while receiving treatment.”
Mohammed said that the security operatives had cordoned off the area and adjourning towns, in an effort to arrest the fleeing suspects.
Meanwhile, all the five persons recently kidnapped in the state, including a politician, a businessman and some health workers, had been released by their abductors.
