The Federal Government has filed fresh charges against the son of the late Head of State, General Sani Abacha, accusing him of unlawfully receiving about 446.3billion Naira allegedly stolen from Government coffers between 1995 and 1998.
In the 9-count charge, Mr Mohammed Abacha is accused of “dishonestly receiving stolen property” and “voluntarily assisting in concealing money.”
The charge replaces the earlier 121 counts in which Mohammed was charged alongside one Atiku Bagudu.
The charge dated February 24, 2014 was filed by a private prosecutor, Daniel Enwelum, who is prosecuting the case on behalf of the Federal Government and upon a fiat dated February 18, 2014 issued to him by the Attorney-General of the Federation.
Mohammed’s absence in the FCT High Court on Thursday, however, stalled his planned arraignment on the new charge.
Justice Mamman Kolo, therefore adjourned the case to April 29.
