Juan Mata OUT for the rest of the season for Manchester United after groin surgery

Huge blow! Man Utd star's season could be over after groin injury

Manchester United have reportedly been dealt the blow of potentially losing Juan Mata to injury for the rest of the season after groin surgery.

The Spain international has been one of the Red Devils’ most consistent performers throughout this campaign, but could now prove a big loss for his club between now and May.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Mata trained as normal this week before complaining of pain in his groin.

The 28-year-old then underwent surgery to deal with the problem, but it looks like the knock could rule him out for the remaining two months of the season.
Mata would then miss as many as nine fixtures in April as United remain in the hunt for a top four spot in the Premier League whilst also progressing in the Europa League.

United have confirmed news of Mata’s surgery but are yet to provide a detailed update on his fitness status.

The former Chelsea playmaker has been a regular for United in their hectic campaign in four competitions, and now leaves them short of options in that creative midfield department.
Jose Mourinho sold Morgan Schneiderlin and Memphis Depay in January while Bastian Schweinsteiger has now also left the club.
