Osaze Odemwingie cancels Indonesian club deal

Former English Premier League footballer, Osaze Peter Odemwingie, has canceled his pre-contract agreement to join Indonesia’s Madura United after he apparently received a better offer from a rival club.
It was gathered that the 35-year-old Nigerian winger was hijacked by one of Madura United’s competitors in Liga 1 – Indonesia’s top-tier football league – after the former West Bromwich Albion star signed a pre-contract agreement with the East Java club on March 16.

Madura United reportedly already paid for Odemwingie and his family’s flights before his agent confirmed that the Nigerian will cancel negotiations with Madura.
“There’s a usurper in Peter Odemwingie’s transfer, although he has signed a pre-contract agreement. There’s an ethics violation and it should be addressed [soon],” the club said on its Twitter account @maduraunitedfc.
“The hijacker is one of the Liga 1 participants. We will respond to the case with firm action as it demonstrates unhealthy competition,” Madura United team manager Haruna Soemitro said.
“He is legally under agreement with us, but he withdrew on his own,” Haruna added.
Reports claimed Odemwingie has been offered a salary that exceeds that of Michael Essien, who plays for Persib Bandung. The West Java club reportedly pays the former Chelsea holding midfielder Rp 9 billion ($647,000) per year, making him the highest paid player in Indonesia.
Haruna said they are considering a lawsuit against the rival club, but he declined to identify it at this time.
