Real Madrid midfielder Isco has suggested that speculation linking him with Barcelona has been sparked to fill time during the international break.
The talented playmaker has been linked with several clubs over recent months, with his days at Santiago Bernabeu considered to be numbered.
A lack of regular starts in the Spanish capital, along with a contract that has less than 18 months left to run, has intensified the gossip surrounding the 24-year-old.
Premier League clubs have long held an interest in Isco, with the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham often mentioned as possible landing spots.
It is, however, a potential switch between La Liga’s fiercest rivals which is generating the most interest at present.
Andres Iniesta and Denis Suarez are among those at Camp Nou to come out in support of such a move being made, with Barca always in the market for added creativity.
Isco, though, has sought to curb the rumours by suggesting that there is little substance to them.
He said after Spain’s 4-1 World Cup qualifying win over Israel on Friday: “We are exposed to this all the time, to everything, rumours and all, so we’re used to it.
“Now that there’s little football going on people have to make rumours up, I don’t know why.
“I only talk on the field and I try to do my best for the team.”
