Injury may force Ibrahimovic into retirement

Manchester United crock Zlatan Ibrahimovic could be forced into retirement after a shocking knee injury. The Swede appears to have torn his ACL against Anderlecht and it’s suggested he’ll be out until January 2018.

The Swede’s knee hyper-extended during the Red Devils’ victory over Anderlecht in the Europa League and the long-term nature of the injury means the striker could have already made his final appearance in a United shirt.ESPN says the forward will be out until January 2018 after seriously damaging his right knee.

Ibrahimovic is expected to undergo surgery before facing a tough rehabilitation process before returning to the field. It is unclear whether or not the forward, whose contract expires at the end of the season, is eligible to have his contract extended after picking up the long-term injury.
Meanwhile Manchester United are holding back on new contract talks with Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The Sunday Mirror says United will offer Ibrahimovic their full medical support in his year-long fight to save his career. However, they will now withdraw their offer to trigger an extra one-year contract. But while Ibra has played his final game for the club – despite a season which has seen him score 28 goals – United feel the have a duty of care to oversee his rehabilitation.A source said: “Zlatan will be given the club’s support throughout his rehabilitation.“If that means helping him beyond the final few months of his contract then that will happen.”
