More than 7million PVCs still uncollected – INEC boss, Prof. Yakubu

Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), at a one day CSO strategy meeting to review elections in Nigeria post 2015 held in Lagos, said that there were over 7 million uncollected Permanent Voters Cards (PVC), across the country.

He stated this in his address entitled: Review elections 2015: Overview, challenges and prospects, organized by the Independent Service Delivery Monitoring Group (ISDMG).
The INEC boss added that the situation is a challenge for the coming 2019 elections.
Yakubu who was represented by the North Central National Commissioner in charge of Elections and Party and Mornitoring, Professor Anthonia Simbine, said that desperation for political power posed the greatest challenge faced by INEC.
Prof Yakubu lamented that “apathetic citizenry, weak political parties and inadequate institutional support for voter mobilisation and enlightenment resulted in low participation at elections, by both voters and political parties and over seven million uncollected PVCs.”
