Police gets warrant of arrest over Edo former speaker

The controversy over official vehicles converted by former Deputy Speaker, Edo House of Assembly, Elizabeth Ativie continued yesterday as the state police got a warrant of arrest from the Benin High Court to effect her arrest over her refusal to return a Lexus Jeep belonging to the House in her possession.

Currently on suspension, Ativie has returned three out of the four vehicles in her possession and promised to return the remaining one which according to her she already sold.

It was gathered that police officers attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) were in her Benin residence to arrest her but she was not at home.

Recently, a leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Charles Idahosa told journalists that the party waded into the matter and it has been resolved that the vehicles be returned until it took a new twist.

The Speaker of the House, Kabiru Adjoto, had insisted that the vehicle be returned but said the law should take its course. When contacted yesterday, the former Deputy Speaker could not be reached as her phone was switched off.
