Footage, taken on a camera phone and obtained by ABC 7, appears to show the two men on the back of a bus in Chicago in Illinois, US.
Suspect Darnell R. Scott, 37, is accused of stabbing his brother-in-law in his stomach, legs, neck and back of the head with a pocket knife.
Speaking in court, Assistant State’s Attorney Craig Taczy said the victim had been partially disembowelled in the attack, the Chicago Tribune reports.
It is alleged that he was stabbed at least 25 times on the bus.
Scott, who is accused of attacking the victim in front of other passengers, is charged with aggravated battery with great bodily harm.
He has been denied bail.
The alleged attack happened at 6.30pm on Thursday last week. It is said to have left the brother-in-law in a critical condition.
