Despite narrowly losing to Uzbekistan in the final of the under-23 cup, the team received a “hero’s welcome” but it was a move that cost the airline a small fine.
After pictures and videos of the display emerged, The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam CAAV issued the penalty on Tuesday.
The budget airline was fined 40 million dong (£1,200) and the plane’s chief stewardess was asked to cough up a further 4 million dong (£120) for the potential breach of safety.
The CAAV said: “Despite the fact the Vietjet event didn’t jeopardise the safety of the flight, it could still have posed a safety risk.”
