The Director of Human Resources, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, Prof. Mansur Malumfashi, has described former presidents, Olusegun Obasanjo and Ibrahim Babangida as “Nigeria’s biggest problems.”
Malumfashi made the remark while criticising the former leaders for their recent open letters to President Muhammadu Buhari.
He spoke at a paper presentation, entitled “Collective Bargaining,” at a one-day public lecture, organised by the Bauchi State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress to mark the union’s 40th anniversary.
According to Malumfashi, Nigeria can not move forward with the duo of Obasanjo and Babangida.
He said, “Corruption is fighting back. I even pity the old man, Buhari; someone they want to kill. He is fighting corruption and they are fighting him back, particularly Babangida and Obasanjo.
“Ladies and gentlemen, these two people are the problems of Nigeria. Both of them had the opportunity to right the wrongs in Nigeria, but neither of them did.
“In fact, instead of developing the country, Babangida duplicated ministries and departments, but because God is fair, He gave him a peaceful tenure with no coup.
“They are Nigeria’s problems and we must tell them the truth. I am 60 years old, even if I die today, Alhamdullilah!
“Why must you write a letter to the President when you have the Council of State? Why didn’t they go and meet Buhari and advise him? Are we going to run Nigeria on the pages of newspapers? This is total hypocrisy.
“This man (Obasanjo) should serve his God. He was living in Yola Prison, but Aliyu Gusau, Theophilus Danjuma, Babangida and Abdulsalami (Abubakar) brought him out and made him President. Look at what he has done for us!”
The lecturer said he wondered why Obasanjo, “who after his first and second terms, wanted a third term, but for Nigerians who vehemently refused, would be fueling fire so that Nigeria would go up in flames.”
