Emir Sanusi wants Arabic studies mainstreamed in Nigeria’s education system

The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has called for Nigeria’s educational system to allow for the inclusion of Arabic education into the mainstream.

The emir said this on Monday while delivering the Thomas Hodgin Memorial Lecture at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom.

Nigeria plans to sell N130 billion bond in March

The Debt Management Office, DMO, on Tuesday, said Nigeria plans to raise N130 billion ($427 million) from its third debt sale this year on March 15.

According to the debt office, it would issue N45 billion in bonds due in 2021, N50 billion maturing in 2027, and N35 billion due 2036, using the Dutch auction system.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Alhaji Muhammad Sidi, the Director General, NEMA, made the disclosure while receiving a fresh batch of 171 Nigerians who arrived in Lagos.

Sidi, who was represented by Dr Onimode Bandele, the Deputy Director, Search and Rescue, said of the total returnees within the period, 251 were male, and 392 female.

Fashola’s ministry embezzles N9.2bn

The Auditor-General’s 2015 annual report has revealed that the Ministry of Power, Works and Housing failed to account for the sum of N9.2bn.

Daily Trust says that the report revealed that the infractions were perpetrated by top government officials between January and December 31, 2015.

The report showed that Ministry of Power, Works and Housing misappropriated N9.2billion.

Miss Justina Dusu, 27, who was allegedly brutalised and her sister, Simi, killed by her boyfriend, Stephen Luka, for refusing to abort her pregnancy, has been delivered of a baby boy.

Luka is currently facing charges of murder, attempted murder, assault and sexual abuse at a Jos High Court.

Anambra Assembly passes 2017 budget

The Anambra State House of Assembly has passed the 2017 Appropriation Bill of N115.5 billion.

The House, which passed the bill in Awka on Tuesday, added that the budget would ensure quality service delivery and more democratic dividends for the people of the state.

Governor Willie Obiano sent the bill to the House on December 6. The bill now needs his signature to become the law.

Italy Deports 37 Nigerians

The Italian government has deported another batch of Nigerians for committing immigration-related offences in the country, just two weeks after it deported 33 Nigerians.

The fresh 37 deportees arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMlA) Lagos, on Tuesday night.

A Nigerian veteran coach,  Kelechi Emeteole, who is down with throat cancer, and needs at least $10,000 for his treatment, has received a donation from Super Eagles' player, Kenneth Omeruo.

The wife of the former rangers club coach, who is allegedly being owed millions by the management of  NPFL side El Kanemi Warriors who he helped get off the relegation zone last two seasons, has reportedly gotten the $6,500 cash donation from the Turkish club Alanyaspor defender.

She said;

“I want to thank Kenneth for his financial contribution towards the health of my husband.
“Iwant to also use this opportunity to beg the clubs who are owing my husband to kindly pay him so that he could foot his medical bills".

Ex-NNPC boss slams EFCC with N1bn suit

Mr Andrew Yakubu, former Group Managing Director of NNPC, wants the Federal High Court Abuja to award N1 billion in his favour against EFCC as damages and compensation for violation‎ of his right.

Counsel to Yakubu, Mr Adeola Adedipe told the court that the matter was brought pursuant to Order 8 Rule 4 of the Fundamental Rights Enforcement Procedure Rules.

Yakubu also prayed the court for a declaration that he was entitled to the dignity of his person, personal liberty, freedom of movement, private and family life as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution.

Bauchi Governor approves death sentence for kidnapping

Kidnapping in Bauchi State is now punishable with death or life imprisonment as Gov. Mohammed Abdullahi signed into law a bill in that direction.

The state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Ibrahim Umar, made this known on Tuesday while briefing newsmen in Bauchi.

He said that Abdullahi also assented to bills on fisheries and accidents.

Tension As Fulani Men Kidnap 52-year-old Woman in Ibadan

Robbers attack corps members in Anambra, one raped

Armed robbers numbering about six, on Tuesday, attacked some corps members serving at Community Secondary School, Amanuke in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State. The incident happened at about 2:00am on Tuesday night.

Facebook slammed for 'failure to remove sexualised images of children'

Damian Collins, chairman of the Culture, Media and Sport Committee, said he had "grave doubts" about the social media giant's ability to moderate content.

His comments came after the BBC said it used Facebook's "report button" to flag up 100 photos on the website, but 82 were not removed.

Instead, an automated response was provided which said the photos did not breach "community standards".
